Can a DVCPRO HD tape play multiple framerates?

We have a student showcase coming up, and some of the films are 23.98 (shot on HVX200) and some are 29.97 (shot on XL1, etc). Would it be possible to play all of these movies off the same DVCPRO HD tape somehow? Thanks in advance!

The HVX200 doesn't record HD to tape. It will play DV/DV25 with or without pulldown, so you can play tapes from a DVX100, HVX200, or any DV camcorder. What you cannot do is play HDV or DVCProHD.

This isn't a question about what the HVX200 can do, I'm pretty aware of that :). We have a student showcase coming up -- we're projecting HD from a DVCPRO HD deck, and we need to do mixed framerates / format.

DvcProHD decks can only play back 29.97fps. If you need to put the 24P stuff on the tape you need to change it to 29.97 by adding a 4:3 pulldown.

Found this in the description of the AJ-HD1400 DVCPROHD deck: The AJ-HD1400 can handle all formats for 1080 and 720 high definition signals. It can also playback 1080/24p (23.98).

I hope this helps.

My bad, Jims right, I was thinking of regular DVCPro SD decks.

Bare in mind that the 1400 deck is the most capable of the dvcpro hd decks. If you have the 1200 deck, you'll have issues, specially with PAL HD material.

That's great news -- looks like I'm getting the 1400 for the showcase.

I'm not sure how to find the specs, but just to be clear:
I've got some footage in 720p/23.98, and some footage in 480i/29.97.

Can DVCPROHD tape hold both 720p and 1080i? In which case I would just upres the 29.97 footage and play it back to back?

Thanks again for all your helpful info!

Quick addendum question as well: you can output onto DVCPRO HD tape via Firewire with the 1400 deck, right?

EDIT - sorry my bad - i misread the above posts and I am the one answering the wrong question :) - my bad - i am leaving my response here in case anyone was interested in thiss - sorry

i think everyone is perhaps answering the wrong question.

You need to conform the footage to a common framerate. So assume you shot

- 24 frames per second
- 48 frames per second (slow motion)
- 12 frames per second (fast motion)

You would bring these all into a common editing timeline - for arguements sake lets say 24 frame timeline. The 24 frames drops in. The 48 frames drops in but gets stretched 2 to 1 in a 24 timeline. The 12 frames drops in but gets a 1 to 2 in a 24 timeline. So all the footage is now in a 24 frame timeline.

Then you export this to tape (29.97) using pulldown to convert the 24 frames to 30 frames.

the deck doesnt have to interpolate the offspeed shots once it is all edited together.
