Hey guys here is a real simple video we did in a few hours on HVX. Its not as big as some of the other videos Ive posted here but its cool for the amount of time and money we had to spend on it.

http://demobrianthompson.com/secret/firerestart.html

Also feel free to check out the website as there are some other HVX videos that are more elaborate.

as always if you guys have any questions I am always available

Brian-

That was so cool. Of course i have to ask what was your workflow?

Did you use any m2 or brevis?

Most importantly what did you do in post to give it that cool look?

Great video

O

Thank you mr. Pimp. It is always nice to get feedback. It was clean HVX no adapter, however we did use a wideangle lens for the wider band stuff. We had two P2 cards and a laptop on set hooked to a mybook harddrive.

In post my editor used aftereffects to color correct and he did most of the effects by hand as far as keyframing the frame skips and stuff. I think he may have had some stock scratches he used for the scratching effects. He also animated the scene with the birds and did some sky replacement. Im pretty sure he used aftereffects for everything.

I hope this helps some.

Last question what was your lighting set up like?

I assume you used kino flos.

thanks

O

The more I see footage from HVX the more impress I get. I finally got to test the camera about 2 weeks ago. I am excited to shoot as soon as possible.

What was your lighting set up like? It was one of the first things that caught my eye. Lighting was excellent. The blending of moods between both lead singers was a nice touch. Over all excellent piece.

It was a really minimal lighting set up, a few 1ks and 2ks, we may have had a kino but honestly I dont remember. I dont want to say no, but its possible. I think we may have even used a flashlight for some of the shots a home depot 10000 candle power thing. Ill ask the DP if we used kinos. I know I should remember that. lol

Good stuff man. Some of the film effects didn't seem to match but it doesn't seem like you had anything to do with it.

Hi Brian
it's a very nice piece of work!!

Hey Brian that was a nice piece.I liked that Harry Potter style.Keep it up dude.
And
Robert, man how did you make those colors come alive?Did you use any 35 adapter?Very nice.
Good day

One of the best HVX music videos I've seen in a while.

The hot front singer and the catchy song helped too. The effects looked like it was complicated to make and took a long time. The hard work benefited you a lot.

Keep up the good work.

P.S. - How long was post-production?

I'd also be interested in finding out more about the post workflow...

All done in AE? how was the "rollover" effect achieved (where the picture rolls up/down the screen)? I know the flashed were from "artbeats", but was the 35mm frame also from artbeats?

Great looking video... The effects got a little tedious for me about half way through, and I would've calmed them down when the girl was singing (she's plenty of a visual of her own), but great vid.

Hello, this is Jeff Dotson the editor & compositor who worked on the music video w/ Brian. Thanks for all the wonderful comments, we tried our best with the small budget we had.

Everything was edited, composited on a mac g5 using Final Cut Pro and After Effects. In order to accomplish the effects, I broke down the shots, and organized the files in After Effects for post. The film clutter was created in ae by tweening the footage using the x & y cordinates, adding a simple motion blur, and a film strip that I created in photoshop. There were no artbeats stock used on this production, we only used a clip purchased from IstockVideo.com for the scratches.

The cemetery scene was actually easier then the film clutter, I simply created a 2D matte painting in photoshop and brought the layers into 3d space using after effects, the hard part was taking out the shadows, and name on top of the stone.

Below are some screen grabs of the before and after shots from the cemetery scene.

cheers,

Jeff

*3 months, because I had other projects around the same time. Technically speaking, 4-5 weeks of work.

* In after effects I copied the clip a series of times, selected all the layers and used the anchor point to roll up and down.

* the 35mm clutter was a image I created in photoshop and animated in after effects.

That looks great...did you cc and add some things in AE to this or was it all photoshop?

It was color corrected in After Effects, but the matte was made in photoshop.

AE is a killer CC program, I use it for everything. What were your camera specs? I typically shoot with a raised pedestal in 1080 24pa. It gives a nice clean image for post CC.
