Convert VHS footage to the Camera OR straight to Comp

I have found that a good settop DVD recorder with a TBC in line gets a good cap of da ol' vhs. You could just do it the way your suggesting if your source is in good shape... vhs->miniDV

my cheap capture cam has pass thru so i just hook a vcr up to its analog jack and pass it thru via firewire into fcp bypassing recording to dv tape.

Yup. I think most cheap cams do, and that's how I do it for a quick fix.

I plan to do it the way I'm suggesting. I just don't know what kind of cable to use, where to plug what to where. There is a specific wire, link me to a picture of what I need. Remember: I have a DVX100 camera that I will be recording the VHS footage to. Please email me of the link and additional information at vcmprojections@yahoo.com

Hmm how do you do that excatly? Just as simple as hooking rca chords from vcr to camera..then caputring?

yes as long as your camera has the ability to pass a signal thru it. you will more than likely have to go into the cameras menu and switch it to receive a signal in via the rcas as its usually defaulted to output.

Alright folks. I will make it very simple and clear how to carry the video/audio signal from the VCR to the camera:

Step 1. From the back of the TV or VCR, plug the RCA cables into the Video/Audio Out, emphasizing "Video Out"

Step 2. The DVX100 allows IN and OUT, in this case, it's playing the role of IN. So plug the other end of the RCA into the camera.

Step 3. Switch the camera to VCR mode, and hit the two record buttons located inside the LCD screen next to audio control. Now you can play the VHS and it should show up on the camera LCD.

Confusion solved.
