PurpleMacaroni Productions presents "Girl vs. Boy"

Welcome Amy. I love the premise of your story and I too am a bring-your-kids-to-the-party kind of person. I think my girls have been in most of our stuff in these fests.
I notice some vertical banding in 2 of your shots, are you using after effects on those? I find after effects does that for some reason. You can see it on some of my stuff also, especially on the zombie film Red Meat.

Good luck with it and can't wait to see some more grabs!

Kurtmo: I'm planning on putting in the computer screen in during post. I thought about trying to to the iChat conversation in real time, but my actress isn't that fast a typist and I'd have to reset for each take. In post, I can control continuity better as well. If I played a full screen video or something like that, I'd have to re-queue it each time. Also, the iBook in use is broken, so I couldn't play a video on it if I wanted to :)

Aram: The vertical banding is a result of trying to key from a DV source with Keylight in AE. The edges are too blocky. I have since been playing with DVMatte Blast in Motion and it does a much nicer job. It essentially creates two keys at once, the traditional chroma key and then one using lumanence to soften the edges.

Thanks everyone for your interest in the progress of the film. I can't wait to watch all the films in this fest as well.

Happy shooting!

Have you tried a composite test witha 3D layer to rotate and get the right angle perspective yet? That's my plan, but no time to do a good test yet.

Good luck on the keying, too!

I haven't played with the computer screen footage yet. I'm still in filming mode. I've done a similar effect on another project, so I don't think it will be that difficult.

And Apple could be a total angel and send my Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade in early May. Motion 3 looks SWEEEEET.

How is filming coming along?
Thanks for asking.
We just got back from a four day trip to the coast. I took advantage of the new location to shoot a few scenes for the film as well. I haven't had a chance to look at the footage, and I'm a little nervous that I didn't get the complete coverage I needed, but I'm sure I can work some magic on it in post. Just have to shoot the final scene and redo a few shots from my first day of shooting (I had technical issues that I didn't notice until I reviewed the footage) and that will wrap filming. I probably won't get to that until the weekend, though.

Great! Nice to close in on the end of filming. Hope you don't have to work too hard to clean up things in post. That's always my time sink!

Screen grabs . . . again

Screen grabs . . . again

Here's the villain, Blue Hawk, caught on film finally:

You can't see the color of his trademark hairstyle in the grab, but I thought he looked the most menacing. Production diary updates on page 1.

Hi AmyO!

I love your thread. Reminds me so much of my horrorfest thread ("I.D.")

Good luck with everything. I bet that you are learning a TON!!!

Your grabs look good!

Thanks Ted. We are all having a lot of fun with this one. We've had to reschedule our final shoot and we are on track to wrap up this week (I hope). I'm also getting some ideas from reading the other threads here (yours included) and seeing how others go about things. I'm glad I jumped into this fest.

Good for you! I am glad that you are having fun... it should be!

I see that you are in Oregon! Lovely country... I miss it. (I live there for 4 years... a LONG time ago! 1980 - 1984!) I plan on taking my wife for a visit this July.

Best to you. If you need any help or have any questions, please ask!

-Ted

Thanks Charli. Yeah, Kev's hair is pretty thick and I think he's about due for a haircut, so he probably had extra gel that day. Plus blue hairspray, which doesn't show up that well in this angle.

one word -> Awesome..

That's a wrap.

That's a wrap.

We wrapped filming last night. Yay. See page 1 for an updated production diary entry.
We only did a couple of short scenes and part of a reshoot, so there isn't too much in the way of exciting footage. But, here is a random screen grab that resulted from me being a bit silly and managed to work its way into a shot:

Batsignal??? I thought this was Spyfest not Herofest???

Way to go on the end of filming. I thought I was done, but I keep re-shooting bits. I'm down to a one dub session with 2 lines (didn't have the record button on the first time).

Looking forward to seeing the kids in action. Your villian has the look!
