What are the advantages and disadvanteges of each? im looking for a solid camera for weedings and would want one with good wide screen footage and good groom light ability, and such thanks!

DVC30s are extremely easy to use compared to a VX in my opinion (I've used my friends VX2100). They are capable of getting amazing colors for their size and cost. The VX will be a lot better for nighttime shooting, but its also pretty big.
Read this little article that I wrote if you get a DVC30.

I shot this footage with mine and my external mic + fisheye.

Compression washed out the colors just a bit too.
the following image is a screengrab of what are probably my best colors.

hope that helps

Thanks so much, i went with your advise and bought a dvc30 and love it thank you! also, is there any website with more info and tutorials relating to the dvc30? thanks!

i dont think there's any website that is dedicated to this camera but if you have any questions about it just let me know.

How did you export that skate clip from Final Cut, did you use Compressor? what were the exact settings you used knowing you'd be exporting for web

i used sorenson squeeze. its basically a software mostly for compressing video but it can also capture clips and do simple little edits.

Good job on the choice. I've owned several sony cams (TRV-900 & VX2000) used the DVC30 for work as well. I think Panasonic has the best color out of the box of any brands. Sony in my eyes is most garish. My JVC HD110 has nice color to, but I've always prefered the Pansonic colors. Next? Good tripod, mic. and a wired zoom control, on camera soft light, etc etc etc. Did you get the DC30 with the optional XLR audio inputs? Only way to travel if you are getting location sound.

you can get other XLR adapters for a lot cheaper than the panasonic one, the one that I got has a single input which is all i really need and i picked it up for $120 including tax at B&H. the only issue that ive had with it is that if you dont have the levels set properly there's this very faint high pitched noise in the background, but its easy to get rid of if you know what you're doing.
