Is it possible to use selfmade p2 cards?

Has somebody already seen the ingredients of the P2 cards? Are the sd cards special certified? May be one can use a single sd Card of 4 GB in selfmade cases?
It would be a great chance saving lot of money.
 
There is a RAID controller inside that is needed to get the required bandwidth by stripeing the content to four memory chips at the same time. Panasonic is also paying top dollar to get zero defect chips.

A lot has been written on the price of a P2 card and the interaction of supply and demand, but the reality is that it is what it is.

This has been discussed since the cams started shipping.

Only Hoodman seems to be offering third party cards and they are not yet tested nor available.
 
Though I've not seen anything on it yet, I've been told by one of the equipment suppliers I use that Maxell is also going to offer a third party P2 card. Don't know if there is any truth to it.
