What much does HVX200 cost these days?

I'm wondering what is the average price for Panasonic AG-HVX200 3-CCD P2/DVCPRO HD camera these days?

I see some sites advertising it for under $2000, and some for $5000. What's the catch for those under $2000 deals, or is the camera really that cheap these days?

If you type "Panasonic AG-HVX200 3-CCD P2/DVCPRO HD" on Google, you can see big differences in price.

Thanks for your help

Average prices from reputable, Authorized Dealers are 5k-5.5k

The catch on 2k is you will never get the camera for that price. Bait and switch, scam, crooklyn shops, etc, etc. Don't even look twice at that crap.

Have a look at the Where to Buy sticky at the top of this section:

Lots of good info. there.

If it's under $5000, then it's a scam or grey market.
Check resellerratings.com for any new company you never heard of or tried out.

All those $2,000 deals you see are scams. I paid $5,000 for mine (the lowest I could find from an authorized dealer) and it was all legit including my rebate.

Interestingly, I bought my DVX from a non-authorized dealer and still got my rebate.

Medicare, search is your friend. Check out the all too numerous threads here on scams. If you think you can get it for $3500, go for it. While you're at it, ask them how they can sell for 25-30% under dealer cost. Get real.

Well, ok, the Ebay ones may be a scam. But Globalmediapro is legit. I know people who has bought from them and they are 100% fine and they sell it for $3,920

Besides if you want to give the Ebay ones a try just buy it and pay with paypal using your credit card. If you never see the camera just call your credit card and cancel the payment. But I checked one of the companies and they have like over 2000 positive reviews from users that bought DLSR and HVXs, so they must have got their cameras. Anyways, Globalmediapro is OK .

It's grey market, aka no USA warranty.

Ok, I see. But I guess if you are getting hydra it doesn't matter if you will get warranty. So might as well get it for cheaper. Brings the cost down to $7000-7400 for a hydra HVX for those who want one.

I just recently went out on a limb and bought the HVX from a company called Foto Connection. Although they made me "confirm" the shipment by phone (the opportunity to try and upsell me) once they figured I wasn't biting they said OK and sent the unit. Although it is grey market (Chinese in this case) the complete package was there in a sealed box. I'm willing to take the chance that I'm not going to use a warrenty while it's in effect (most of us rarely do). Bottom line, I paid $ 3585.00 for it and saved about $ 1500.00. That was worth it to me. You make your own decision.

Hello,

So grey market HVX200's are the same as the retail hvx200's, but just not covered by the Panasonic warranty? But can a Panasonic or other repair service fix a grey market product if I pay them to? Is it just the warranty that you miss out on or is the HVX200 compromised hardware or software wise in someway?

Thanks,

Ando

I for one have had to send my hvx in for repair and maintenence, and it was a breeze. My authentic HVX has menus in English, not Japanese. As a professional there is No chance would I ever gamble on grey market crap. It is a serious gamble. Who knows where its been. Likely it was refurbished and they certainly will NOT stand behind it. It may not have met quality standards. On top of that If there is something wrong you have no recourse. Those companies are fly by night and forget it if you need any support. If you can afford to throw the money away, then go for it. But its people who do this, who enable these scammers to continue. On top of that, it has a negative effect on the authorised dealers that do it the right way. It for me is also a matter of principle.
