Hoping for suggestions;

I'm working on a new doc, where I'll have 5 people running video diaries as they travel, does anyone have a recommendation on a small 3-chip camera that would work for a doc.

I gotta buy 5 of them.. so I can't run out and buy the most expensive thing! Cheap but good quality!

I know recently Spike Lee gave a bunch of kids cameras to record their New Orleans video diaries on CNN - anyone have any idea what kind of cameras they might have been?

Thanks!

Not sure what your definition of cheap is. And will the footage need to be all 60i? If cheap you mean under 1k and want them to shoot in 24p - Canon HV20.

Here's the challenge;

- It needs to be 3-chip, I don't think all of these are.
- I'm funding this myself.. so I can't afford a $3000 DVX200 or Sony !!

I need to buy 5 or 6 of these.., so getting them cheap is important - but I can't do that at $1000 buck a pop!

Unfortunatelt, I may have to revert to a "consumer" level camera - the big concert there is (besides vid quality) the audio.., and not having an output for a mic....

Has anyone used "consumer" sub $1000 cameras for a documentary. How was the video, and audio?

Thanks,

Please refer to the Canon HV20 subforum under other cameras people are getting these under the 1K mark and Im sure you could get a discount with a 6 cam purchase. I dont think you can do much better for the money. Even Barry Green is a HV20 user.
