$24.00 Fisherman Follow Focus

UPDATE

I'm waiting for a day without rain! :( It's this time of the year. Since it has been raining so much, I've taking the time to play around with a few other projects that I'm going to post very soon (Stabilization System, sled, arm, and vest.) . I'm going to try and shoot some footage tomorrow after work, it's looks very promising (keep your fingers crossed).

Here's a little test of the FF. I've modified a few parts inside the gear box for super smooth action, tell me what you?

Hey twocik23, looks good!

Didn't realize I hadn't given you any words of praise on your ingenuity until I was praising your follow focus in my "researching rods" thread. Actually this project is what inspired the rod quest in the first place, I can't make your project until I have/make some. So wish me luck and thanks again for a great solution to an expensive piece of equipment. DIYers unite!!

Hi Twocik, great job,
You definitely inspired me and I'm almost done with using an RC servo to make it wireless for use on a crane.
ButI'm having issues with tightening the gear around the lens, what system did you use? I can see on the picture some kind of tightener with a spring and a screw? Are you still using this system? What's it called?
Thanks,
Arno

It's actually just a spring and two screws. There are also two little metal plates that I cut out of some scarp metal and those are used as a guide for the screws thru the nylon gear. If you any help just let me know. :)

"How do you make this bad boy? Directions?"

It's a little hard to explain with pictures and words. I'm taking the time out next week to put together a 'how to DVD.' :) I'm also thinking of including a how to on the rod system part, because the rod system I'm using now is made by Cavision and they're kind of expensive.

Wow, a DVD would be sweet. I'd pay for that. Just don't hold it up for the rods -- I've got a set. :)

If U need Gears, See you local Radio Controlled Car hobby Shop Or look on line for the bigger shops. Look for the Motor Gears they use for the Electric Cars. They usually have a large assortment so a racer can "gear up" or "down" their car. Also, you may wish to seriously look into the Transmissions from these. You will find all kinds of stuff in them that is very useful. You might find some used ones on Ebay or something. I had a Team Associated "RC10" Car. Im not really speaking about the toy RC cars like you find at wallmart, but the pro stuff. I think youll find your gear dreams come true, very affordably.

I made a rig for a camera a long time ago using the Gears and radio kit, that would allow for Remote control operation of the Zoom/Focus/Iris/start stop button. I also used the Radio and some really heavy duty Servo's out of a Car.

I also made several remote control "microphone positioners" for my Recording studio simply using old 2 channel radios and two raw servos mounted together in an X/Y configuration with a mic holder glued onto the rotator of one of them. I could get them basically placed where I wanted them, then sit in front of my console with my headphones on and really dial them in. Worked great for recording leslie speakers.

Good luck, hope this helps your quest

Seems like most of the follow focus designs I've read about use 1:1 ratio on the gear box, and then a swappable medium to small gear between the box and the lens gear. But when I looked for RC bevel gear sets, none of them were 1:1.

Ideas?

Sorry guys I haven't been able to get back to all of you through PM's. I've been very busy designing the New ifocus 35mm adapter (static and non static), ifocus (FF) & Gears, rod system, etc... Should be released in early July. I'll have photos and clips soon to view.

I'll try and load the other FF pics soon.
