How many here upload P2 cards and edit on a 15" 2.33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo w/FCP5?
I'm looking at getting one with the below specs to upload 16gb P2 cards to (via dual system adapter) and use as an editing station, with probably some kind of cheap lcd hd monitor, (any suggestions appreciated) and an external 320gb Lacie firewire 400 or 800 hard drive. I'm assuming this should be at least an adequate mobile editing station.

15" 2.33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
120GB hard drive
6x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM

I'm thinking of getting this monitor too.

The Duel adapter isn't going to ship for another 3-4 weeks according to their website.

Well that is "my" setup... despite the fact that I have the 17" mbp. I think it works fine!
I was thinking of getting the 17" MBP too, but I like the size of the 15" better for mobility. And they both the same graphics card and processor.
Oh ya, I can wait a few weeks for the dual adapter, I'm not getting anything right this second.

That's the same set up I'm running. I have two 320GB FW HDDs and one 120GB USB-powered pocket drive. I flew out to PHX with all of that stuff in my backpack, did three days of editing 720/30pn, and had not one hitch.

I too prefer the 15". I don't want to lug around a 17", and if I do need a bigger view, I'll just hook it up to a 20" widescreen Dell LCD.

Oh yeah, the 15" is nicer for portability, but I have a 15" Powerbook as well so my choice was the 17" for the bigger screen... connected to a 30" Cinema Display it is a nice bundle and works pretty well!! :)

I have 3x 250GB, 3x 120GB, 2x 80GB and 1x 1TB of external storage at the moment... CAPACITY!!! :-D

Hopefully by the time i have the HVX200 and 15" MBP, the dual systems adapters will be available, and all the firmwire for 16gb P2 cards to use on that setup will be out and working.

Whenever I buy a drive, I buy two of the same;
because if my work isn't backed up, I'm not a pro.

Actually, I recently got three 500GB disks from OWC:

They are sweet!

So I have one work drive, one backup,
and one off-ste backup.

I forgot to mention that i'd be getting probalby a 1tb or (2) 500gb external hd's as backups. I was thinking of a Lacie or G-Force.
You like those a lot? They aren't cheap, but i'm wondering how they are reliability wise. I found a G-Force 1tb for about $340 on newegg.

Some people love 'em.

Cost a little more but I've used G-Tech (G-Raid) for some time now and never been disappointed.

Wouldn't the 2.16 MBP with 2GB Ram work just as well?
I would assume so. But that one has a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB of GDDR3 SDRAM (instead of 256mb) and dual-link DVI. It also only comes with 1gb of ram.

Yep. I got the 17"mbp. waiting for the duel adapter. Its been a frustrating 9 months without it. But the machine edits fine. just get all the ram you can put in it. (which is not much)

I also have 10 external HD's all ranging from 250gigs to 1tb sucking power off of a dedicated powerstrip for them. This will only get worse. I think this is the reason my electric bill has gone up.

I find it better to use my 24inch dell lcd as a monitor than the labtop. But only because it has component in the back. Its really nice to use it as a second monitor as well with the mbp. definitely increases productivity.

there are new MBPs coming soon. I bet they'll take a chunk out of the existing one's prices.

Looking forward to a deal, or killer features on the new ones...

Either way, macrumors is suggesting MBP buyers wait if they can.

June 11th is the expected rollout date for Santa Rosa macs.

.

Boy I've not seen that at all.

It coincides with the WWDC, but I have no idea that anything is expected.
