'24' meets 'Bad Boy II' meets 'The Departed'... oh and 'A Man Apart' too.

This film was supposed to be conceptualized and made for SpyFest.

Unfortuntately, time was scarcer than money making the making of the film fall to the bottom of my priority list.

However, it's production has been slated for July 2007 and prep is starting to begin.

The film, which is untitled at the moment, will have the aesthetical style of 'Bad Boys II', especially in the rich colours and contrast, with some of the camera moves of '24'. Image will meet content with the performance and corruption intensity of 'The Departed' with the plots twists of Guy Ritchie and the ferocious revenge of 'A Man Apart', all in 8 minutes, max.

How, you might ask... I am still answering that myself. If shot on the DVX, it will be a two-cam set-up, if HVX stock lens a two-cam set-up will be looked at and hoped/prayed for, and if HVX + PS adapter it will of course be a single cam set-up. Oh yeah, squibs, SWAT and a little CG.

That's all for now.

It's kind of like a conspiracy piece.

The film follows a police officer or special forces officer (doesn't really matter yet) as he tries to find out who kidnapped his wife. When he finds out who it was, he discovers more than he was expecting; a life of lies and betrayal, both emotionally and professionally. Not only was his wife not 'actually kidnapped', but the company and people he works for are corrupt beyond belief.

I don't want to give the details away, that's why I'm being vague. But it's supposedly about military contractors and their operations, , but only little clues in the short will hint at this.

However, the film does not really tell you what it is about. It functions as more of a hook. The short introduces you to a bunch of characters in the middle of a conflict, but you don't really know what the confict is. You only know what side of the conflict they are on. And when the film is over, if we've all done our jobs right, audiences and investors will think "Okay, now I want to see the whole movie".

Update.

Recently been talking with an new amourer in Toronto, which is where we'll be shooting. They quoted us with some awesome rates for weapons, weapons-related gear and the SWAT/Tact team uniform/costuming. Also, the amourer and his guys will be the players performing as the SWAT/Tact team. It's exciting because they are ex-military/ex-forces, so each move they make and technique they use will be 100% authentic.

Currently seeking out a location; a single floor apartment, or bungalow. I would love the interior to be similar, in floor plan, to the bungalow in John Woo's BMW Hire Series short film, 'Hostage'. But we'll have to wait and see.

Sounds really cool. Let us know when it's finished. BTW, what's the budget? Any names starring?

Thanks SR.

No names yet, as casting hasn't begun.

Budget is still up in the air too. Trying to keep it low, as this is the second of three serious short films slated for 2007.
