Can anyone recommend a good camera for shooting SPORTS?

I am an amatuer, looking for a used starter professional camera. I mostly film sports. Can anyone tell me what my best bet is? I am really limiting my price to under $2,000 since I am just getting started which my rule out a few good ones.

I love the DVX100's... but worried they may not be the best for sports?

Thanks ahead of time!!

The only reason I would think a 100 would not be good for sports is if you need the reach of a really long zoom. Otherwise, the DVX will do just as good (and better then most) as any other camera in your price range.

I agree with Bennis that in that price range it probably doesn't matter to much. You will more than likely be shooting interlaced to minimize strobing.

Ahh I'm relieved to hear..

I have become addicted to this wide world of DVX's and just hear rave reviews. Do you think it is essential to use a steady cam while on the sidelines for football games? Or will a DVX be comfortable on the shoulder? Or do I need to buy a shoulder mount?

The dvx won't be comfortable on your shoulder/in your hand. The camera weighs 5 pounds not including accessories so unless you can hold a 5 lb weight in your hand for hours and be steady I wouldn't do it. Plus the further you are zoomed in the steadier is has to be. I would suggest either a monopod or something like a dvrig pro
You can then get a zoom controller and affix it to the handle.

Remember this is only if you are the only one covering the event and have to move a lot if you can be stable I would just get a tripod.

I would get a mono pod, but really, I don't have a problem holding the DVX for a while. After you hit the 3+ hour mark your arms get tired, but during a football game you will have plenty of time to set it down for a moments rest.
