Music video I did this winter. It was my first time out with both the HVX and the M2 so I know that the images could be better. Still I'd like to get some feedback. I directed/DPd/Camera op'd and produced so all the problems are pretty much my fault haha(except for having a horribly small budget).

And the vid isn't officially released yet so shhh...

Thanks
Chris

PS We built the sets.

Thanks guys...would love someone to do a review...I know I can do better than this so it would be good to hear what works and what doesn't. And yes Cinebuddy: Editing was me as well...and I actually color corrected the entire thing frame by frame in photoshop to deal with some of the issues of the footage. Monitor wasn't calibrated correctly(It was also new...and I'm an idiot) so I was able to salvage much of the footage with photoshop much better than with AVID's built in CC tools.

not for the faint of hart..

not for the faint of hart..

lots of spelling eerors...sorry....

Director...........

really liked the Concept...including the dream seequence...wish there was more concept .(might be my wish on every MV i shoot)..because confused a little in the begging...and didn't understand her interacting with the lead singer during the dream and then kissing the dark haired guy....and didn't even catch the first viewing that guy showing her the money...witch is why I got so lost during first viewing..

Editor....

liked the style of quick cuts with the cash and performance but that also made me lose what that was about...the cuting with the Head bob hair whips was cool but at the end got a little repitishus...but over all liked the concept/performance mix...nice cuting rythum during some of the chouruses

DP.....

the performance I thought looked good but the style (flater soft Key, backlight slightly warm saturated colors) didn't match the beging of the song witch I felt was more in a punk vein...but the Chorus could be seen as more PoP music so if thats how the band/label want to be seen then that works fine... The shot outside of the guy going up the stair case I thought was the worst looking shot...just because of blown out skys and building and it looked less quality... but later on I liked her running out side..(was it more overcast, open shade then?) looking back I think the beging perfomance stuff I think was the best looking shots...

there was one shot a really wide close to singer,.. that felt strange..did you remove the M2 and shoot with wide angle?

the haze/fog in the background seemed like from a wall mart/holoween specail but it never was over the top...

the bedroom stuff worked whell but I didn't feel that the design of the shots where as creative as they could be...when she is dressing/undressing shes flat agaist the red wall, (big plus red wall good production design...and candel is great.) but theres no depth and feels very student film like...theres a Dolly in as she gets out of bed good looking shot ( I love the (maybe soft Backlighting on her) but bad angle of dolly or it just feels wrong... if the dolly was higher and came over the bed it could have been a much better reviel of the band and the dream. you do a rack from the Bed to them witch is ok ... but something with better frameing and perhaps a better... the rack from the water glass to her I don't understand what that shot means..(maybe shes thirsty for him)...but over all look and feel are good, the lighting works most of the time..(really also like the shots of her waking up even though it may not be relistic night looking its a dream sequence in a music video.. )

art/production design was good but the quality still felt high Student level...the bedroom needed other forground etc...

so good stuff over all realy liked concept and editing, liked the over all look and feel. just felt the shots them selves expealy frameing and concept could have been better...sometimes thats where haveing a director And a DP can help...vs you rodregizing the whole thing yourself...

Vincent: Thanks for the in depth feedback, and I agree with much of your critiques. I did pretty much everything from direction, camera, lights, production design etc... so some aspects definately suffered. Also since it was my first time working with my new camera setup and I didn't really have enough powerfull lights to do it justice and I spent a lot of time figuring some things out which hurt me in the end. Along with that, we had a very small budget and money always helps.

Still I don't like to make excuses...I'm just frankly not at the level I should be yet and I really aim to get there. My focus is really narrative direction so I plan on working on that but this summer I plan on doing alot of practice with the hvx and lighting etc etc, and probably doing a few music vids . I figure that theres no excuse not to be on top of things...and I honestly still need lots of practice to get on the right level.

Anyways...I'm only a freshman in college so if this looks like high school level I'm only really a year behind. I do have 3 more years to get my act together for the "real" world outside school haha.

Anyways thanks, and any more feedback is appreciated
