So I go to see Grindhouse early this afternoon in the Downtown Cinema. Any of you who have seen it or know the style know what to expect, so i wont go into detail. But something happened in the middle of the movie that was so horrifyingly scary and later so funny that I just had to tell everyone about it.
In the middle of watching the first feature on Grindhouse's double bill, Planet Terror, a scene where the bad guy and the good guy square off in a base with alot of flashing lights in progress... when all of a sudden an Alarm starts to go off, and not like a fire alarm or anything like that, I'm talkin 1950's America is at War, missles are raining down on us type of alarm. Over and over we hear this "Vshuaaaaa, Vshuuuuaaaaa!!!" sound and sit there like cows, everyone figured it was an elaborate stunt, something to go with the Grindhouse movie. I was like, "Man these guys are nuts, to go this far and put..." when I heard the recorded message that made my hairs stand on edge and my sweat turn cold.
"May i have your attention please, this is a message form the emergency broadcast system, it has been reported that a terrorist attack has occured. Everyone please stay calm and evacuate the building."
I swear to you I nearly shi* myself... My wife looked at me and said, "Oh no hunny, not again..." and I'm thinkin, this is how it happes, America goes to war, real war where it's us fighting on our own land and not somewhere far from home... it all happens when you least expect it, when your enjoying a movie or something enjoyable. As everyone in the building was evacuating with that aweful alarm going on like it was the end of the world my mind kept goin back to that Patrick Swayze movie, I think it's called Red Dawn. It's funny the things you think about when your uncertain, Everyone's face was full of sooooo much fear and my wife wouldnt even respond to my questions.
When we got outside we saw the fire trucks, a fire had started somewhere in the building and set off some kind of special Alarm instead of the fire alarm. Something that supposedly everybuilding in Downtown has, this emergency broadcast recording.
So it was just a scare, but man I dont wish that on anyone. not the scare or the real thing. But now that it's over i just wanted to say that it's funny How everyone in the theatre thought it was a joke by the Rodriguez/Tarantino colaboration... a little too funny.
