DVX100B gets "error communicating with camera" in iMovie HD 6

Hi there,

I have a Panasonic DVX100B which continually gets "error communicating with camera" after a few minutes in iMovie HD 6. Works fine then has error with blue screen. iMovie works fine with isight and with small canon camcorder. I do have the isight connected as well ... never had a problem before having 2 cameras.

Thanks!
Bill

Update on the issue ... I tried using QT Pro's Movie Record instead of iMovie and had no error communicating with camera. Seems isolated to iMovie.

Could this be a setting incompatibility with the DVX100B and iMovie?

Another update. If the camera is in camera mode but not recording the error happens ... BUT if it is recording then no error.

ok look.... HORRIBLE programs like imovie arent capable of reading your footage unless you shoot 60i, which is the standard for most cameras (maaaabey 30p, but i dunno, iv never tryed)

you need something like avid, or final cut express/pro, sounds like your gunna wanna buy FCExpress, which runs around 300 bucks.

captuing 24p isnt going to work in that program, you need a program with advanced pulldown removal, or some other progressive capture system.

I agree. I don't understand using a $3000 camera with a free... linear editing system.

I know it sounds silly to blend the 2 but there is a reason ... The camera is setup in a corporate studio where we want the quality and XLR ease of the DVX100B but the editing simplicity of iMovie since the users are mostly novices. The work done in this studio is for web-based eLearning, Corporate communication. We want anyone who has a story to tell to be able to tell it. The camera is pretty well set for the room so they have little to do with the camera. I personally use all the Apple pro apps but this is a fairly unique solution. General camcorders are a pain to get audio in at proper levels and lack the manual controls I want so the camera can stay set to the room.

Hope that explains the situation better ... love to hear alternatives and arguments .

Thanks!
Bill

Require everybody to read this Visual Quickstart Guide for Final Cut Express and then get a deal on the software. The book got me started in less than a day. The rest is testing out your questions with some garbage footage. Just figure it out. "Well what if I do this?" and then try it. This is the best way IMO to learn with the NLE.

Thanks Zach ... I just went to the FCE website and they even have a tour called making the switch from IMovie to FCE ... I think a novice could handle it with some instruction and a VQ book. Appreciate the thought.
