Just out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean with it being a "fraud"? If you order from them, you never get the camera, they just take your money and run?
I mean that they will never, under any circumstances, sell you that product at that price. It is false advertising.

I see it Abel Cine has it up at $2695 now. They list the model as a BPS. I know it's not any different, wonder why the "PS" tacked on?

It has to do with the rebate stuff. BP = pacific/north america, but that includes Canada. An official USA version should be BPS.

I'll second the PAL question. If I could buy this camera in the UK for £1400. I'd be completely convinced. Currently it's still £2000. I think that's almost $4000!

To be fair the UK price includes VAT (sales tax).

It's still about £1700+VAT from official dealers, which is about $3350 as of today.

I have contacted a dealer about the price cut and whether to expect something similar in the UK. I'll report back on what I hear.

fair point . However as a rank amateur I consider VAT as part of the price and as a self appointed victim of Rip-off Britain I choose to ignore the fact that in the US they may be adding sales tax.

Still £1400 inclusive of VAT seems a fair price and, more importantly, one I am happy to pay.

Well, the price for a DVX100BE from a reputable dealer in Sweden is about $4800 (including sales tax) so... well, you can guess the rest.

I guess it's all relative to wages/cost of living...

...of course this price drop means the gap between a DVX and an HVX has just grown a $1000...

...can we expect another announcement? Reduction of price on 8gig P2 cards and a further £5-600 off an HVX is a nice idea, no?

Barry, how do you know all this??? You amaze me, dude...
Zim tipped me off that it was coming; he went to the Panasonic site and there was a "blank spot" where the DVX rebate used to be. So then I kept going to check, because there's no way they'd leave a blank spot up there.

As for BPS, Jan's said that several times here on the board. The B/BP/BPS question gets asked here a lot, so I was just the first to respond; if I hadn't, I'm sure others would have. It's a FAQ.

I don't see why you couldn't buy from a dealer in another EU country. Sounds like the Swedish price is very high.

Some people have stated they wish the price drop was steeper. Perhaps during/after NAB the price will drop even more; this was just a starting point to get some buzz? I dunno I've never taken a marketing class...but when new stuff comes out the old stuff always has to drop, but only does so small chunks at a time.

I could of course, but to be honest I haven't really found any authorized dealer in the EU that offers the cam that much cheaper to make it worth the hassle of not being able to get warranty repairs and support at home etc.

I did however find an unauthorized dealer outside the EU that offered the cam significantly cheaper, with a price difference that does make it worth the hassle. The cam is now bought and paid for and hopefully on it's way. According to FedEx, at lest something is on the way so I'm keeping my fingers crossed... (Well, being Swedish, I'm actually "holding the thumbs"...)

Im guessing B&H set the price standard, then the other retailers will follow with similar prices...until they realize that we want prices a little cheaper...then they will start to drop. :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

I mean...I dont know how it works, but did B&H just pull that number out of the air, or did panasonic suggest a list price?

I always wonder what the wholesale price is on these things...We can assume the dealers want to make a profit from the new price cuts..
