DVX100B $1000 price drop - now $2995 retail

lets hope it $2500 or less! Seeing as how you could get it with rebate for around $2900 a little while back.

How long will it take for shop owners to ajust their prices? A week? A month? I got my Brevis coming soon...they would make a happy couple.

Needed to happen, although it is still strange to me that there seems to be absolutely no indication of anything coming out of Panasonic's corner to go head to head with the A1.

EDIT:
Barry you should edit your post to say " Don't yet know what street price will be... $2500? $2300?
maybe the prices will change accordingly!

ill shop around once all the sellers get their prices checked...maybe it will be a couple hundred less here and there....

credit card engaged!
:D

Check it out.
http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=94944&catGroupId=14571&surfModel=AG-DVX100B

And that still includes the free DVX Book/DVD, Magic Bullet Editors 2, and InstantHD.

Don't yet know what street price will be... $2700? $2500?

It's nice to see the price is going down but I think it's still not enough. People now can buy the most updated technology and 24P in the Canon HV20 for $1000. Why do they have to pay $1500 more for 4 year old technology and little more manual control and better build and look ? I'm currently looking for a camcorder and am leaning toward the Canon HV20. I figure that if I go with the Canon HV20, I could use the $1500 difference to buy a nice sound setup. From what I've learned in the audio forum, sound is half of what you experience in a movie, right

The DVX is so much more then that. I would hands down pick it over the HV20 any day of the week and twice on Sunday's.

But this isn't a vs. thread.

Good pictures can be taken on any camera, but most of the consumer models can be pretty frustrating when it comes to actually using them out in the real world, where issues like unbalanced mic input and automatic gain make it practically impossible to record good sound and things like servo controlled lenses make grabbing a quick focus (using the zoom-in, grab focus, zoom out method) a time consuming task as you must wait three seconds to zoom-in instead of .1 second with a manual zoom control. Basically, the DVX100B is designed for the way professionals use cameras. The HV20 is designed for the way families make home movies. That is a pretty big difference that might not seem significant on the surface, but it is huge. Manual controls are generally more valued in a professional environment than a higher resolution camera that picks your f/stop for you, records audio with a "hiss", and a lens that makes manual focusing a ten second ordeal. This is of course why the Canon HV20 camera is not high on my list as a professional tool. But as a sub-$1k camera to shoot home movies? Absolutely the best choice out there at this time. :)

Thanks for keeping us updated on the price change, Barry! And yes, as to the above. I spent my career before kids using professional Sony betacams. The manual controls are an absolute must if you plan on using a camera like this professionally. I'm a lousy cameraperson with a consumer cam on my own kids, let's hope the dvx100b brings me back to my professional frame of mind.

that is very weird I swear I saw a thread here about the dvx100 pricing couldn't stay the same. I guess panasonic is listening. $2649 for the DVX brand new is actually a fair price no it isn't a jaw dropping price adjustment but it is a fair price for what you are getting. Game is on, now canon should drop the price on the Canon GL2 and The XL2. XL2 for $1999 and GL2 for $1499 brand new! not bad pricing. Come on canon the ball is back in your court just clear out your stock.

UPDATE: Geez looks like the GL2 is already $1750 on BandH! Okay so GL2 for $1250 and XL2 for $2000!

meh...it should have dropped more, the panasonic price being $3999 and you being able to get it for $2900 after rebate....last month..

so its like a $300 price drop.

should have at least been around 2200 :(

Yeah skrott, that price is a fraud.
Just out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean with it being a "fraud"? If you order from them, you never get the camera, they just take your money and run?

I don't think it is a far enough drop to stop me from the A1. A new model with 16x9 and AVC might...

(must stop self from thinking it will happen -- no self - pany not listen -- no new m-o-d-e-l, falls to floor clutching head)

Yes, sound is very important, exactly why the consumer level inputs on the
HV20 won't be up to par with the XLR inputs on the DVX, regardless of the expensive equipment you try to plug into it.
