I Found a Cheap external HD monitor

Okay so what's the point in saving for the Marshall if this worked great?

same reason i'm saving for the varizoom; portability

this must be plugged in all the time, varizoom can run off my other HVX batteries.

freedom! (from cords)

couldnt have said it better Hans.

I now have a WORKING SOLUTION (crisis over)

I will now slowly save to get the ELEGANT SOLUTION

I take it that it can it accept a 1080i/24p signal because it's technically shooting at 1080i?

I've been trying to get a catalog from Ikan for two weeks. First response was we'll send it right out.

Then nothing. The company isn't big. I'd be interested to see what it does following NAB.

I bought an Ikan V8000W. 480 lines, but only composite input. It's tricky to nail the focus, but it's a good little monitor, and not too expensive.

composite input only, that means its just the video signal right? so you are still able to hear sound while playing back the footage right?
