Does Cine D actually have a higher dynamic range? In the hvx settings

Hello,

I've got a quick question. Does Cine D actually have a higher dynamic range, over say HD Norm? In the hvx settings.

As I gather, a higher dynamic range records more variation in colour? but if the hvx records at 4:2:2 , and 8 bit in each colour, where does the extra colour come from?

Sorry im new to this.

Regards
Jon.

Processing the signal so that it digs deeper steps into the blacks and whites without the safety roll off of a standard video signal (whites).

It's picture intensity (gamma curve), not colour as such.

I don't remember but Barry's HVX Book mentions the relative lattitudes of the various settings. One thing that I've heard a couple times however is that while Cine-D may provide more dynamic range than other gamma modes, when it does blow out it looks much worse.
