Hey guys. So we started to shoot my new short this Monday, but after one day of shooting we had to cancel due to sickness, time and som very bad luck. Such a shame since the actors and the crew were doing such a great job, but luckily everyone took the unfortinate ending of the shoot with a smile and rather remember it as a good experience for upcoming projects.
Here are some grabs from the that day, shot with dvx-100, sgpro rev.2.
We went for the natural look with basicly no extra lighting.

UPDATE: uploaded a video clip from the shoot, some of the crew as well. h.264, 18mb, 1:20min.

i love natural lighting. seriously, there is too much of too much these days, even if it looks like millions of dollars. This has its own aesthetic.

Looking good!
Maybe just cut a spec trailer out of it?
So it wasn´t all for nothing...
And we could see some moving stuff;o)

Do you have the PAL version of the DVX? Because the default shutter speed should be 48/sec for 24fps, unless it's PAL. Or did you choose 50/sec specifically, in Synchro Scan mode? Beautiful footage by the way. Are they uprezzed? You should try setting detail to maybe -2 or 0, see if there really is much noise/edginess. You might get even better results.

Also, why not crush blacks in post, instead of setting master pedestal to -6? You get more control... Although in post, you might lose quality (could be wrong).

Looks really damn good for not using any lights man.
were you rockin' any extra lenses for this one?
also, i'm pretty sure he is in pal land.

Hello and thanks for the input. Yes, I'm in PAL land so 25p and 1/50 shutter all the way :)

Since we had to dvx's and sgpro's we sometimes shot with both at once, mostly sporting a pentax-k 55mm f.1.2, and a Canon EOS f.1.4. Also used a pentax-k 28mm f.2.8.
I shoot at master pad -6 because i always end up crushing the blacks even more in post, though I'm not sure if it would hurt to do it more in post? I just kinda followed the word when the dvx got out on the marked, that it's better to do it in camera, rather then after. I did uprez it with Instant HD so I could get the right widescreen aspect.

- cheers!

wow, it looks like the HVX image... very nice looking and I LOVE the natural lighting.

Im not trying to be a jerk, and I do love Smettli's shots. GREAT. but it really doesnt make the HVX mark. again, it looks great, but def. not comparible to HVX.

Smettli, GREAT JOB.. I think the footage looks so good cause of your compression used. Ive tried to mimick it with poor results. Whatever you are doing keep it up.... Also, the CC is great. good inspiration
