Trying to export for DVD....wtf?

i'm scrambling trying to export my 8 minute short film to a dvd quality format, but after compressor finishes i notice there are several dropped/skipped frames throughout the film. all the files i have exported for the web are fine. i've wasted several hours doing this and have gotten the same problem.

is there anything particular i need to be looking at in compressor? oh yea, i am trying to export for dvd and want to import the file into dvd studio pro and havent used that program before. it takes .mov files right?

If you just want to import a .mov file and let DVDSP do the encoding, you can do it that way. Otherwise you need to encode the mov file in Compressor with say the DVD Best Quality 90 minutes and import that file along with the audio file and do it that way.

I go the Compressor rooute as I can tweak the settings a big and it does a better job encoding than DVDSP does.

oh so i have to export the audio out seperately and import them both? i'm so green in compressor it aint funny.

so should i do dvd best quality, 16:9 and then click "all" ??? and then import all three of those files (dolby 2.0, AIFF 48/16, mpeg 2 6.2 mbps 2-pass 16:9) into DVDSTP?

Yep, Compressor will break the files down into video and audio.

Otherwise you can darg a .mov file into DVDSP and it will encode both the audio and video for you as well.

I just drag the mpeg file onto the background and hold it until I can select "Create Button and Track"

That'll put yoour video onto a track in the timeline. Then I just drag my dolby audio files below the video track and you can then build your DVD.

Usually I put an image or another mov in the background and then do the above so it looks kinda spiffy. :)

Might be a better way to do it but it's a quick and fast way for me.

okay, thanx guys, i'll try that out. it's rendering now. i have never even opened DVDSTP but once. hopefully that doesnt take long to figure out.

:dankk2:

man...what the hell...i imported the files into DVDSTP, created a menu and tested on the simulator and it plays fine, but when i burn to DVD it doesnt work on either of my two dvd players. i also notice these warning messages in DVDSTP as it was burning:

Warning: The file ‘THE_HIT_FINAL_CUT.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.

Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.

the name of my mpeg file is The Hit and thats the name of my short film but i dont know what those two files are that its talking about...anyboduy know whats going on???

check to see what the "first play" is on the disc, it may not be set, meaning the disc doesnt know where to start playing it.

im trying to think, if theres a problem or something to overlook in DVDSP, ive had it or overlooked it, just wracking my brain.

can you take a snap of this window and show what it says:

just upload it to isarapix.com and link me here

you have it set as an HD DVD

thats the problem. YOu need it to be set as an SD DVD.

you cant change it back unfortunatly. youll have to start over

Be sure its set to the format you want before you do anything to edit the DVD itself, once you do something to it, that project is stuck in that format.

okay, it works now....BUT, there are a coupla skips in the DVD when it plays. does yours do that every now and then? should i keep burning until i get a good copy or is there something that is causing it or that will eliminate it?

Are you burning through DVD SP? I usually burn to disc as a .img file, then i dont have to open up DVD SP to burn copies of it everytime.

Make it a .img file through DVD SP and burn it through Toast

oh, i dont think i have toast. is it free? how do i convert it to an image file just export everything out or something?
