Here in Finland it is illegal to show movies without having them go thru a state film board which stamps them with the age rating (guess it is the same in USA). If you do not do want to do this the movie gets K18 (XXX) rating.

Television has been exempt from this.

Now this rating board in its deep wisdom has desided that according to the law all net video content is also under the same rule. You either have to declare your net videos as news, educational and some other categories which you do not have to get the rating for, or have it rated (at 2€ per minute).

As this applies to all net videos available in Finland, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE in at least declaring all your net videos to the abovesaid film board or having them reviewed UNDER THE PENALTY OF LAW!

Just wait, there will be a knock on your door one of these nights with Interpol gorillas getting you. I have warned you...

Tyhmää vai mitä?

Gawd,
Next they'll make it illigal to copy music from your own CDs to your iPod in Finland.

...Oh wait that allready happend, about 2 years ago.

There is no requirement in the US that a film be rated. Submitting to the ratings board is a voluntary (and expensive) action; market forces kind of dictate it because theaters and stores won't usually buy unrated content. But it's not any sort of legal requirement here.

That doc, "This Film is not Yet Rated", is out and it is GREAT.
I don't know if its in the movie or not, but the MPAA made an illegal copy of the movie just in case it had to use it to protect itself in court.

How ironic...

I never understood why, under the enlightened rule of Czechoslovak Communist Party, Finland was the only country outside of the Warsaw Pact where my country folk had no problem getting a travel permit. Now I do. Looks like their government was (and still is, as it appears) just a 'socialism with human face' - which in itself is an oxymoron.

Reading P.K.'s lament about YouTube ban in Thailand, the 'special' Google in China, and a nonsense like the above, I wonder if world governments will ever get it: the globalization of information is here to stay, and unwarranted, stupid regulations like this are bound to antagonize the local population, and eventually fail.

End of rant.
