before i figured out that you import directly into final cut, i copied the folder with audio, proxy, clip, etc subfolders onto my macbook. now i can't delete it because all files are locked...

thanks

you want to copy the entire volume called 'NO NAME' to your HDD, not the contents folder. Back the cards up that way, its the easiest way to do so and safest for your footage. If you capture from the P2 card directly then you delete the card and you need footage you are outta luck. So copy the NO NAME directory entirely to your HDD and import into Final Cut from there.

You have to format the card, you cant just delete the 'contents' folder on the card.

In Mac OSX all you have to do is hold down the option key while you select "Empty Trash" from the FINDER pull down menu.

That should do it. Now you just have to decide if you want to delete your originals.

Good Luck,

Rob

You can delete the contents folder (or any locked file for that matter) by holding the option key and then emptying the trash.

My method for copying from the "no name" volume(s) is to create a folder called "P2 footage name here with date" on your computer hard drive. Then open the "no name" volume, press CMD-A to select both the Textclip file and contents folder. CMD-C to copy it. Then open the folder you just made and CMD-V to paste your P2 files into the folder.

It's a few more steps than just option copying the "no name" volume, but it helps me stay organized especially if you have multiple cards mounted. Also makes it a snap to drop the 3.5 gig "P2" folder on a single layer data DVD for backup.
