S C H I T T E K A T T E R a Taylor Bryson Film

Is it my imagination or were/are you not linked up with Jack?
French Quarter Films/ Features ??? I know I've seen these names around jacks threads/links. Excuse me for not being proficient in the details. And yes it's Friday night. Is Jack pulling a sneaky one here :) ? (Reminds me to catch up on Jacks stuff. That's what weekends are for, no?)

I guess the question is what part if any is Jack playing in this. Fair enough?

/By the way. Can't go wrong with a name like Taylor. ahem. ahem.

// mmm, offly quiet around here.

Hahaha Jack said someone might think that. I think you therefore are proficient in details as there is some connection I suppose.
  • I am using two of Jack's actors from French Quarter Features' (his company) ODD Squad (his film) which won 2nd in SciFest
  • I took sound design at Tulane in NOLA from Jack when he taught there.
  • I assisted him on some sound gigs, and P.A.ed sporadically on Shed and ODD Squad (I was in school so I helped where I could)
  • Jack has helped put me in touch with actors, shown me web resources for fonts and sound and stuff, and help me make my decision about getting my HVX
  • I am a fan of Jack's work.
So I can see where you are coming from. I thought J. Dan (what we call Jack here) was being paranoid or just having a big head, lol, when he said somebody would suggest what you are hinting at.

But also ... I'm also using the fantabulous Blake Balu from Reyo San Picture's (Kaz's company) We are Not Alone (Kaz's film) which won 2nd place in Sci Fest (NOLA in the House).

All of these actors are in New Orleans and the film was shot in New Orleans and Jack is in Brooklyn, I believe.

My on set photog (Korey) is busy with school right now but SOON there will be picks of me on set - tall, skinny, ponytail, 25 year old hippy - not Jack, lol.

Haha, so those are the connections, but now I will have to listen to an "I told you so" from Jack, heheh.

I was just trying to name the actors' and and the fact that they were in Jack and Kaz's films like they do on the back of a DVD box
"David Carradine (Kill Bill)"
to get a little bit of warranted (because those actor are really great) attention.
Since I am a newb and what not.

Nah ... no offense, Keystone, but I know Jack wouldn't have put up a banner with the wrong spelling (S H I T T A etc. vs. S C H I T T A etc.). So, never crossed my mind. 'Sides, think he's busy with a feature in association with Barry Green, if I'm not mistaken.

Are you kidding, Jack taught two of my classes. He is a scatterbrain, that's exactly the kind of thing he would do, lol.

Yeah, the little I know of Jack is he's very creative and therefore inherently unpredictable (opinion only). While he has not pulled anything yet, I always get the feeling he's capable of doing something out of the norm (in a creative way). If you understand what I mean.
At any rate you could not have picked a better teacher. Lucky you.
Looking forward to the flick. I'm already sure it's going to rock. :)

Hey Norm. Absolutly not. I'm a BIG fan of your stuff (me and my brother Arielman) and actually saw the joke in the type after I wrote it. I didn't mean that as a joke, it just came out that way. Sure enough it backfired.
This is getting out of hand. Must be a cross-border dielect thing.
I would never insult you guys. And if I did I'd say I was joking :)

Lol, I was totally kidding.

But, look ... Jack comes in here to advertise HIS site in someone else's thread? Ugh, those New Yorkers and their lack of class. :cheesy: Kidding!

Hey, I know you were light, just wanted to clear that up for the record.

I was also worried I insulted Jack with the 'unpredicatable' comment. I made that based on human behavour predictability, not Jacks behavour.
That is not a bad thing. In fact it's what makes....babble, babble, babble...

lol, no worries

I just saw that my on set photog uploaded some photos ... will sort through them and post some ...

Hey man,

I'm definitely looking forward to your entry. Especially I'm excited about how the title of the film is related to the story ;o) Is it possible that SCHITTEKATTER is a "slang-word"? I really just can guess what it means.... Though I'm from Germany, haha! Well, we have so many different accents here that people from Northern Germany don't understand people from the South...

Good luck and have a lot of fun

Cheers, Manuel

... Also, I got asked about getting shut down by homeland security in another thread, here's the answer ....

-----
You can now see in the photos on page one where we were shooting. But it was basically under the Crescent City connection (a giant suspension bridge in New Orleans) right near the levee.

Basically after a day and a half of shooting there the Coast Guard finally noticed us and came out on their little boat with their giant mounted Gatlin gun and stared at us through binoculars.

20 minutes later 5 police cars pulled up on the levee and told us to pack all our gear up. They took pictures of us all and our names which are now registered with homeland security. They took pictures of all the gear and they looked at our footage and read our script - which is about corrupt New Orleans cops :) Once it was abundandtly clear we were making a small amateur film they were versy nice and joked around with us, but still shut us down.
-----

We still had a page left to film and only 2 hours of daylight. We had to improvise and come up with a new ending which is better I think, but I am really concerned about coverage and how polished some of the work is that I've seen by other entering filmmakers. Hopefully we will be OK, I've kind of been putting off editing that section so far

I'm on the fence about saying too much about how we finished because it might make the fudgery we had to resort to to finish more apparent, whereas we may easily get away with it if I don't point it out before hand.

Wow! How weird was that? Are you guys in some permanent DHS database now? What do they put in the comments field? "Non-terrorist filmmakers without a permit?" Pretty weird! I hope L.A. isn't as security conscious as N.O. (I don't think so). Anywho, LOVE the production stills! Looks like you guys have some SERIOUS sand baggage! Seriously, cool shots--looking forward to seeing your film!

Hey Kaz! Thanks for loaning Blake to me. As I mentioned earlier in he thread, I only had to hit him with the butt of a gun once and then he was great to work with.

Haha, just kidding of course. Blake was AMAZING to work with. In he original ending he was supposed to get thrown into the Mississippi. I asked him saying "I expect you to say no to this. You should say no to this. But as a filmmaker I have to ask, can we dump you in the Mississippi? Do not worry we can cut around it." He said "let me think about it" and then called later to say that it would be such a cool shot that he felt he had to do it. And it would have been a cool shot if we had not got shut down. Again we had to write a new ending and shoot it elsewhere. So no river dumping. The ending is cool but does not feature that shot now. For those that don't know, the Mississippi is not somewhere you would want to fall into, especially in New Orleans proper. It is dirty and it moves fast and there is no real bank. So you could get swept out and under quickly. We were going to tie a rope to his leg and composite the rope out later. Who is crazier me or Blake? Don't know. But suffice it to say I am eager to work with him again.

Haha, yeah. I think it is not such a big deal, but a friend helping that day is sure he will have al sorts of trouble flying now. I think they have bigger fish to fry.

Well we were filming under the Crescent City Connection on a levee. Two major terrorist targets and we were there for two days. If you did that in any city you would probably get shut down. But in NOLA it takes them two days to notice you, lol.

Yeah we had to have those because of the incline to keep things in place. We had to park a half mile away. 35lb sand bags are not fun to carry that far. One day I will have P.A.'s I hope, heh heh.
