My First "Real" Music Video

I like the concept alot, too much slowmo for me though. Maybe only use it in the dramatic parts. Also maybe toss in some more camera angles, like cut to a close up of the handshake.

I liked this a lot. It was nice to see a music video that had a story connected with it. I agree that there may have been a little too much slow-mo. Maybe you could have interspersed a little normal speed footage to keep things moving a little more story wise. Nice job overall, though!

i really like this.......aside from the slow motion wich i actually like because im big into it also....the color and contrast is awesome. i do however agree there could have been more camera angles. It is however better than anything ive gotten accomplished so far.

Very nice! Liked the story. How did you manage to get those excellent slow motions ? What were your settings @ your dvx for the slow motion shots and what exactly did you do in your video program? Thanks a lot!

hey, I liked it!

Beautiful slo-mo, great colours, and lovely DOF. Some shots have the adapter edge in there.

I agree the quality for youtube was very good. What was your 411 on the rendering?
Just rendered a QT movie out of FCP. No special settings for youtube.

Filmed all the slow motion in 60i and used shake to create a 720p 60p file. Here is a tutorial similar to what I used. http://members.shaw.ca/alex.mitchell/slowmotiontutorial.pdf
Everything on the DVX was pretty flat except the master ped was dropped to -4. The main race car actually got run over in one of the last shots. We were riding next to him in a Focus and the actor lost control and the car went under the focus rear wheel. Scary but funny after it all settled. And of course I got it all on tape.

Thanks for the kind words. I know about the adapter edge. I have solved that on my HQ copies and DVDs.

i still don't exactly understand how you got that slow of a slow motion at 60i.

Just thought I would add my 10 cents worth. I found the music video very interesting to watch, I wondered what was going to happen next. Im hoping to be able to develop that type of knowledge that you have to create a music video like that.

As with the quality I loved the colors and DOF, and angles. The slow motion looked great, I was waiting in participation thou for the slow motion to return back to normal speed.

Keep up the great work!!!

Check out this tutorial

Pretty much, you create a 720P file running at 60P by deinterlacing in Shake or FCP. Then I brought that file into Cinema Tools and changed the frame rate to 23.98. Now bring it into FCP and the file that was running at 60fps is now running at 23.98fps. Check out the tutorial to get an idea. I used Shake instead of FCP for the deinterlacing but I can't seem to find that tutorial anymore. It took 2 whole days to slow down some of the longest footage. It was pretty intensive for my Mac Pro. I think the slow mo looks OK but not great. If it would be a simplier shot such as someone against a black background, the footage would look better IMHO. Like I said, this was my first "Real" music video and my first heavy use of the letus... hell, this was my first real use of my Mac Pro. I definately know a lot more now then I did at the begginning.
