Here is a short that edited for someone. She shot everything and picked the music I just did the cutting and tried to stay to the story board best a possible but was hard to do because of some bad shots and holes in what the actually shot compared to the shot list. I still need to do some CC.

Let me know what you think. They used a Dvx i dont know which one.

thanks

What bothered me is that the score in a film should accompany the visuals. Visuals shouldn't be influenced by the music, but there were times where the guy would say something like "...pray" and there'd be a random cut to her praying, or something religious. That had uninspired written all over it. I also found the ending lame. I cant even justify why two masked men would up and killed her.
However, I did like the symbolism of those two children, and the contradiction of innocence. There were definately some defined themes.
When you approach such an obscenly overdone topic there needs to be something that sets it apart from the other million. Usually...nothing really does, however the "norm" is to at least have some strong images. I've gotta say, there wasn't a single shot of anything that blew me away. Take Trainspotting. Specifically....okay the whole movie. But even Requiem for a Dream (although not a great film) had those trip out scenes or some nice wide shots or something that drills the seriousness into your mind. (I do get that you were editor and not the director...but thats what I think of the end product, dont know how much you had to do with it)

Thanks alot for the feedback.

I actually had no input in the story or how it was shot i am just trying to get as much work as possible editing as i can. Just to get better at it. But I know the girl that made the movie pretty well and will be able to relay the comments to her. That is why i asked for feedback on both. I do agree alot with what you had to say and had alot of fustrating moments editing the peice.

Im sorry if some of the clips lined up with the words for what was actually happened. I just tried to follow the storyboard and make the cuts work as best as possible. I really didnt pay any attention to the words of the song just the feel builds and drops and such a little.

thanks alot

I absolutely get what your saying, my comments were definately geared towards the director and not really to you. Especially as an editor, you've gotta please your employer first and foremost when your trying to move up the food chain. I get that. Im keeping an eye out for your future projects.

Looked pretty good but it felt like a music video. If you hadn't said the director picked the music then I'd have thought it a music video and probably enjoyed it more. As it is it feels like a very long montage that should fit somewhere in a bigger movie.

As for the editing after a few shots near the begining that I didn't like, jumping between kids and girl, too intrusive, it got better and suited the music pretty well.

That looks like a sweet story... But I have a few questions...

The girl and the boy... is that her and the priest?

the guy she's doing drugs with and taking the shower with... is that the guy and his brother (since they look alike) that kills her in the end?

yeah the man people are the girl that does heroine, the preist, and the boyfriend. the priest and boyfriend kill her at he end.

Like i said it was just my job to edit but just trying to get feedback on the piece. I dont know much about where she actually wanted to convey to the audience this is also her first work from what i know.

thanks for the look
