The band isn't releasing the video til mid-April, so shhhhhhh....

Shot entirely with the HVX and m2 (minus one shot).
Nikon lenses: 28mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 105mm f/2.8

We had another HVX at our disposal, but the footage looked ENTIRELY different that we couldn't use it.

The m2 worked well for us. It was a little tricky from a lighting standpoint, but we were able to make it work with lots of testing during preproduction.

I'll be checking back here every now and then, so if you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll respond as soon as I can.

We have a behind-the-scenes video as well if you want to check out our setup and how we shot it.

Hope you all enjoy the video.

Thanks for watching.

Comments are appreciated.

Sorry if my comment is a bit short, but my command of English is hardly restricted ;)

I loved to watch your video. The music was great. The outside - incredible (guy running with the suitcase). Also loved the focusfades you were using at the bandshot.

The only thing I disliked, was the CC in the "telephonshot". To my opinion its too flat and bright.

Rating: 4.8/5 :D

Nice job, but I'm not commenting till you get a full wide version on there! the left and right sides are CUT OFF!! so, you just get an atta boy for now..

very nice piece.... music was surprisingly loud... nicely recorded. I love the high shutter stuff.. and I know it's a real battle to get that extra light.. but it's so worth it. Now i'm trying to be at atleast 1/120th or higher.. if I can get a well exposed 1/250 then I'm rocking

good job

Shooting with the high shutter was indeed challenging. I really wanted to shoot the band with a 45 degree shutter, but had to settle for 90 degree.

Btw, we shot most of the video in 1080i except for the variable framerates, which we uprezzed.

Looks ace, man! Congrats!

I put this on just as my buddy was walking into the room. He was blown away at the quality. He's a serious musician and knows I have an HVX/Brevis to shoot with. Now we're talking a music video. :)

Very Pro! My favorite part was the editing of the running scene with the brief case. Keep up the good work. What did you use to CC???

The running scene was my favorite part to shoot. The video was edited and color corrected all within FCP.

Whoa....okay...I just checked it out in Internet Explorer and for some reason it was chopping off the sides. Weird.

I think I fixed it. Let me know if it's still chopping the sides off.

No more choping off! AMAZING dude.. really great job.. GREAT shots, GREAT edit.. and who cares about all that, the group ROCKS!!

Are they signed?

They are still unsigned but will hopefully be shopping around soon.
It's crazy how many talented bands there are out there that don't have a record deal.

Liked it a lot, although about 90% of the shots were close-ups, and I find that annoying. But shooting in a number of confined spaces AND cropping to 2.35:1 often necessitates it. The CC on the night sequence went a little overboard I think. The rest of the footage has a greenish/beige look to it, so the deep blue is very jarring. It felt out of place. I realize that it emphasizes the fact that it's at night, but I don't think it needed to be that blue and almost bordering on purple.

Lots of CUs for the band shots was an intentional choice I made before going into the shoot. I hoped it would help heighten and complement the intensity of the song.

Plus, I really dislike my 50mm Nikon Lens...which left me mostly with shots using my 28mm and my 105mm. I'd like to get an 85mm or a zoom lens, but finding good used ones has been difficult lately.

I tried doing a lot of things differently this time around and experiment with different techniques, etc. Whether they worked or not is left to personal opinion and taste. I just wanted to use the opportunity to grow and learn by experience.

I agree that the night scenes look too darn blue. I'll probably go back and fix that and the red phone before I send it to air on TV.

This was all edited in Final Cut Pro.

Thanks for the feedback.

I can't get over that first shot where the first big hit comes in. It seems like you speed up the middle so it's just like...I don't even know. Great job. I loved the video all around. The night stuff was a little bit too blue/purple, but that can easily be toned down.
