No HDV 24 Frame support at all.

Not surprised. They do not care about us at all. 2 years now of broken promisies and they want more of my money. By the time they ever decide to impliment it, my computer will no longer be supported.

Avid simply DOES NOT CARE about the indie HDV 24 Frame crowd.

Some "Best Editor on the Planet."

Curious...

Seeing that this is primarily a DVX and HVX board, why could you care less about HDV? My Avid runs like a rocket with both these cameras and I have no need for the inferior HDV format.

Many people love the JVC and Canon Cameras. I am on this board because there are people with knwoledge of Avid and FCP on it. Just pointing out how bad Avid is treating their customers who use these cameras. I'm glad they support what you use, but the fact remains they have stiffed us for 2 years and it is pathetic. Canopus delivered in a matter of weeks.

I can say for sure that the improvements to the P2 workflow Avid has implemented are terrific. I've found no issues with AXP 5.7 on my xw8000 approved workstation and on my nw9440 approved laptop.

And 5.7 it comes with Sorenson Squeeze 4.5.

Athough it did not make it to AXP, you really have to see the new script-based editing in Media Composer to believe it. A new feature called "ScriptSync" uses phonetic-indexing technology to analyze the audio portion of a clip and match it to lines of the script text. It will help the those making features or projects with heavy dialogue save lots of time.

There's another community here as well. If your opinion is that HDV as a whole is inferior, that's fine; it is an opinion on certain, valid levels.

Thanks for the update on Avid. I will be trying it out since you can now edit from the P2 card. Sounds like it runs pretty much like Edius Broadcast.

Nice updates, but unless I'm reading this wrong, there's no support for:
JVC HDV 720/24p or 720/25p or 720/60p
Canon HV20 & Sony V1U HDV @ 1080/24p
Canon HDV 1080/24F & 1080/30F
Panasonic DVCPRO-HD @ 1080/24pA, 1080/24p, 1080/30p, 1080/25p, 720/30p, 720/25p or 720/50p.

So it looks like it's better than before, but (unless someone points out something I missed) it looks like it still has a long way to go...

Sounds like it runs pretty much like Edius Broadcast.
As far as editing from the cards, maybe so (and if so, well done, Avid!) But as far as formats supported, not in the same ballpark. I believe EDIUS supports every one of those formats listed above, with the possible exception of HV20/V1U 1080/24p (not sure about that one).

Barry,

This was the list of formats supported BEFORE the inclusion of 720p/50. I've been editing 1080/30p and 1080/24p for quite a while now.

There is already talk of version 6.

Hopefully, these other formats will be supported for those who need them.

This from avid forum today:

There is a 1080p/25 project workaround for 720p/25pN material shot on the HVX200 camera. This starts with the creation of a 1080p/25 project and continues with the following steps:

1.drag files to avid mediafiles/mxf/1 or open mediatool from a 1080p/25 project type and read the p2 card directly
2.drag 720p25pn files to an open bin in the 1080p/25 project type
3. edit using open timeline
4.transcode as needed for final output

it should be noted that in the format column it will still read 720p/50 but the media is 25fps and will work in this project type due to the avid open timeline

Sheesh, I just paid $50 for the 5.4 to 5.6 upgrade for what I thought would be improved P2 handling and fewer audio track drops and got nothing for it. I should've waited and just gone from 5.4 to 5.7.

Guess I'll wait a while longer on this one.

$345 what 3rd party software do we get? i went thru hell and a half to get the 5.6 cuz i dont have internet to download it so i had to ask a friend on here who lives in cal to do that for me and then to register the thing was another hellish story but if the 3rd party software is worth it and they can mail me the cds in the mail i mite pay 345.

Anyone want to report on the ease of editing straight from the card with the new release? Is it vastly improved? On the level with Edius Broadcast or still tedious work-arounds?

Why can't Final Cut be released on PC... sigh.
