thank you for your quick help .
16:9 480/24p , is it the only format that i can chose if i can only shoot in mini DV format?

It delivers a lot of aliasing/stairstepping in its 480/60i. Looks fantastic in 24p and 30p, but the 60i gets too stair-steppy for my tastes. You can go a ways towards fixing it by turning detail level and v-detail-level down to -7, but even then it doesn't look as good as a DVX's 480/60i.

Interesting, good to know. (I am guessing by stair-steppy, you mean the interlacing is more obvious... I watched your HVX bootcamp, is this kind of the effect that the thin/think lines are for? Jittery horizontal lines? Or am I misunderstanding)?

Also, how much worse would you say it is than the DVX?

Lastly, what do you think of 60i mode when shooting in 1080 res?

For 1080 it's fine; I just don't care for interlaced footage at all so I rarely ever use 1080/60i. The issue only comes up when the internal 1920x1080 gets downconverted to 480/60i. It can be dealt with, but it's not very good-looking. Like I said, I tend to avoid 480/60i on the HVX; if I had to shoot 480/60i I'd reach for the DVX first.

I don't know, I don't know what that other problem was.

Thin/thick wouldn't help; that's only for progressive footage, and 60i is always treated as "thick".

I have produced several shows now for international broadcasters where we shot 4:3 / 50i on tape with several HVX cameras. We never had any complaints and also never realized stairstepping. is it an NTSC problem?

I've experienced some MAJOR stair-stepping when shooting 480i of a magic show...red and blue lighting really made it worse, too. I didn't think to try 30p, though.
