Pre-PMA announcements have been pouring in over the last couple weeks, and tonight/today a flury of announcements from various manufacturers hit the wire.
Canon's going to get a lot of exposure from the 1D MKIII announcement over the remainder of the week, but another little gem that slipped in was the little Canon TX1.
This digital dynamo even adds a 30 fps High Definition (HD) 720p widescreen (16:9) capability to its movie mode at the press of a button. What's more, the PowerShot TX1 digital camera has easy connectivity to play its movies or high quality stills back on high-def TVs, thanks to Canon's thoughtful inclusion of a convenient component video output terminal.

Pretty interesting developments.

I would have posted this in the still section, but I felt the inclusion of shooting 720p HD was worth sharing here.

I've been trying to find out the cost of the little sucker. My girl has been wanting a camcorder which I hate consumer stuff for the most part...but if this allows me to upgrade her SD400 that i gave her, and gives her really good movies, too (im not convinced she'll use it as much as she claims.) Then, I might spring for this little guy.

If I had to guess, I'd say $600.

The bit rate is around 35Mbps using the MJPEG codec. The picture quality should be better than the 700 dollar Sanyo HD2 that’s about to be released.

focus does look like it's struggling on those shots. If that doesn't prove to be a problem then otherwise looks very good to me for what it is. Coupled with a macbook running iMovie could be a fun toy.

edit: Actually the indoor clip with the toys looks bloody noisy!
