THE NIGHTSHIFTERS - better late than never!

wow... thanks for bumping this, i was blown away... great effects, lighting, camera shakes... everything.

you said the wolf face was created in maya, then placed over the original mask footage... did you motion track it in maya LIVE, or was it frame by frame? it looks great, the track didn't slip at all.

amazing work man, i was blown away.

That was insane! I loved it. Man if After Effects makes your stuff look THAT good (besides great lighting) I'd better start saving up. Any behind the scenes links/shots?

WTF?!!!!!!

Amazing...your handling of blacks, shadows, compression and lighting are all top notch.
I remember reading a post on another site recently complaining about the DVX being too noisy in the dark. Well...they should watch your film and realize that it's their crappy technique...not the DVX. In the right hands, such as yours...magic.

wheres Zenon man? he doesnt realise his movie is gaining Cult following.

Hey guys!

Sorry didn't realise this thread was picking up again.

Great to hear more people are getting to see the film.

Me and my brother have been out of it for a while but we are planning
a big return for SpyFest!!!!

We're still a little gutted about Horror Fest and not getting in on time, we
could have really done with a new HVX

Saying that we still have faith in the little DVX100 and are planning
to really push the button on this next film.

Sorry the nightshifters site is a bit of a mess, just dont have time to
clear it up.

To answer the question about the tracking of the wolf head, my brother actually tracked the head over the footage frame by frame. A little bit of work
but it paid off.

Well thanks again for bumping the thread, keep your eyes peeled for out next
fest entry!

Richard

Vapires Quick move?

Vapires Quick move?

Hey can you share how you achieved the effect where the vampires (the 4) moved quickly into frame?

Ok,

the speedy entrance of the vampire goons was done by firstly shooting a clean plate of the background.

I then shot my vampires individually and had them jump and sidestep into position.

This footage was later taken into After Effects where I cut each goon out as best I could.

I then placed them all together against the clean plate so it looked like they where in the scene together.

To have each one rush in at super speed I adjusted their position properties and set keyfames so they went from outside the frame and then into their final positions over at matter of milliseconds.

Motion blur was then turned on to give that whooooooooosh effect! Some tidying up was need such as the post being cut out and laid over frame so the vampire comes from behind it.

To be honest I had a nightmare with this shot as when I filmed the vampires individually I forgot to ask them to stay on their spot to give their virtual goon buddies time to come in after them. The shot would have lasted longer but because they moved nearly as soon as they jumped in I had to rush them all in super fast! Never mind it seemed to work.

Well that's basically it, but incase this has made no sense what so ever here is the link to the tutorial in which I adapted the effect from.

The only thing that took me out of it was the audio issues. I heard a lot of clipping and there was the slight overdub problem in the beginning.

Other than that, it was very very good considering the tools you had at your disposal. I'd like to see what you could do with more professional actors and a bigger budget.

Very cool! All the good stuff has been said, but I think the best part of your short is it's 'style'. It stands out, has it's own vibe and feels like a real movie. Awesome work!
