Mixing 1080p and 720p in a project

Hello,

I will have the opportunity to shoot a building imploding in the near future for a documentary I am making and I had a technical question.

I have been shooting everything thus far in 720p 24N and wanted to shoot the implosion at 1080 24p. Do you know if I will have a problem editing that footage into my movie? Also, do you know if Final Cut supports 1080 24p?

Thank you for your time.

Ahhhh another vegas casino bites the dust! Which one is it this time?
FCP does support 1080/24p. You may want to shoot 1080/24PA so you can remove the pulldown on import so it will be easier to put it into your timeline with the 720/24pn footage. It will still need to be rendered though.

FCP supports 1080/24pA. I shot the Boardwalk implosion in 720/24pN @ 60fps. Try to get a decent position, work with the news crews or someone to get decent placement. And if they do it at 2:30 a.m., which they probably will if it's one of the hotels, it'll be dark dark dark. Use 1/24 shutter speed if you need to, to get additional brightness.

I wouldn't shoot that with just one camera, since there are no second takes. Get one camera for a wide angle shot at 1080 if you wish, and set up one or two more at 720/60 over 24PN for the slow-mo.

You can use loop recording to keep the cameras rolling and ensure that you get the shot -- all you have to do after the implosion is stop the cameras.

Considering the dust and debris that may be flying around, put UV filters on the lenses if you don't already do that, and cover the cameras with something like a Petrol rain cover or plastic bags.
