So here is my first HVX video

I have made several music videos on DVX

and this is my first HVX video

it has been done for a couple months and has actually been getting national attention (mtv news did a story on it and fox national news hanity and colmes also did a piece on it)

mainly for the subject matter.

It is an anti-war music video and I have been getting a bit of heat as well as praise for the video.

here it is. Curios to see what the hvx users have to say:

SOME MATERIAL IN THE VIDEO IS A BIT GRAPHIC AND VIOLENT IN NATURE!

Great video you have there, but i really want to comment on the song. Great lyrics and i loved the execution. A really really great piece of work overall!

great video!

Loved the song. Perfect style of vid

where did you get the stock footage? Just recorded from TV? What was your process?

the stock footage is just a random compilation of news footage from all over....dvd's/satelite/ wherever I could find footage on the subject

the desert local is on the border of arizona/san diego....people go out there and ride their dune buggies....you can see some of the tracks throughout the video...

thanks for the comments...i know it is a bit political in nature....and that is why i didn't initially post it...but i always post my videos here....so i wanted to....

the stock footage was off dvd's or tv so it was all 4x3 so it had to be stretched out and blown up to fit in the 720p 16x9 timeline....once in the computer digitized as dv footage....it was uprezed...it looked bad but that was part of the look we were going for

Cool stuff, love the attitude. Is their any licencing involved with the stock footage? I mean is it an issue?

Although I disagree with the political message the piec was well done.

another piece I recently saw from the other side of the coin was a documentary
called obsession. www.obsessionthemovie.com Definite opportunities out there
for filmakers in todays world!

I agree with the message, and think it was extremely well done. You shot it at Glamis (Imperial Sand Dunes)?

Awesome! Not sure how a sentient being could disagree with the message here, but then again that's why the "crazies" as they were called in the 80's by their own party, are running our country. Would be great to get some airplay for this.. as the tune is well done, but of course you won't.

Nice to see something political and so well thought out. KUDOS to you. I'd throw this up on youtube and wherever you can get some exposure! The level of evil and deceit that is going on is so mindblowing its cause to just wanna stick ya head in the sand. Proof that the 60s didn't mean crap, and that an individual today really can't do anythign to change what our government does... but just send out a personal message that's an affront to what's being done in our name. It's so simple and logical for why we are over there that it insults our intelligence to call it the war on terror or whatever else they want to call it. Does anyone remember when they first called it Operation Iraqi Liberation: OIL....

wowwaweewa...

Glamis is where we shot it. Its where san diego meets arizona...

I realize people are on both sides of the actual message of the video....I actually think that is a good thing. There has been a lot of discussion because of the video and that is what I tried to do. Have people engage in discourse about it.

And I was armed only with my hvx.

also if you go to youtube and type in timz you will find the video:

it is actually a featured music video on youtube, and mtv news did a story on it as well

um I hated how the lyrics were overlayd on the video in that font kinda silly...looked bad, all of the dissolves and fades and what not I was not feeling and the stuff where the backround became tottaly the stock footage I was not feeling, I would have seen you do something to make it more organic maybe have shot in front of a projector and showed the screen, the way you did it is reminscent of a used car salesman commercial or something ha.

I wish people would get over it and stop being afraid to say something bad. why post something here if all you get is "DUDE THAT WAS AWESOME".

J,

I think people are not criticizing it because it's not bad. The editing made that video. I like that you chopped the file footage fast enough that it became an ambiance out of which you gave us a few short glimpses of the more important moment--but not long enough for it to fully sink in before it was gone. I think I'll have the image of the little child with his arm removed in my head for days.

Good show.

I watched Timz on Hannity and Colmes. He looked pretty flustered. He was lucky Chuck Norris was filling in for Hannity--who is number 1 on my list of people I would punch in the face--because Chuck is kind of a moron (sorry) and Hannity has no soul and thus wouldn't have pulled punches like Chuck did. (You never thought you'd see Chuck Norris pulling punches, did you?)

yeah the type was maybe the wrong font, but I liked the concept, and the fact that he's an iraqi american is pretty legit. Hopefully this gets more coverage and every little bit of help we can get will hopefully get our family out of that inevitable downward spiral. Thanks.

Damn that $%# was Dope!

Damn that $%# was Dope!

straight dope as the young'ns say.

Sweet. On politically, loved the low rezzed bkgd images (were they keyed?) and the desert footage punched it home.

Did you green screen any of that
What program did you key with. After effects or your editing software?

I spent eight years as a journalist, (embedded for "shock and awe" on the USS Constellation) in mainstream media.

There was probably as much learning involved in that video as there was in my career.

Oddly, I agree. I think people should not just say kind things about other peoples projects. This is a forum for discussion. And believe me I love discussion. But that said I look at things more on a constructive level and reading over what was said here is to me hilarious. First off the text overlay is taken from a popular artist. I'm sure you can tell me who and how silly they are..., and I love your suggestion about projection...god knows that has never been done before, but the one part I will agree with you on is the comp is not great, done in final cut pro, it could have been done more seamless.

That said i'm sure any carsalesman would be proud to have me do a commercial for them ;)

I think you should stick to your home movie type projects that I am sure you do really well shooting on hvx, but leave the cinematic stuff to those of us who take chances....at least some of us try different things instead of the same old basic stuff which I am sure if I saw your work would leave a lot to be desired for....ok that last part is just mean on my part....lol

ps, I do enjoy the criticism even if for the most part it is off, which i felt this guy was

the cable in the desert question...where does it go....

the answer to that is it is symbolic...i took the basic premise from Nas' song one mic

the other question was did we key it....we shot greenscreen in the desert so the lighting would match and used final cut pro to key...which isn't the greatest but it did the job....I was ok with a bit of a rough look, the footage was just footage taken from all over so it had to be uprezed to fit the 720 timeline
