Hey guys, poor white balance shooting under an orange street light led to the grab below. I need the color correction Gods to help me on this one. A little back story... The shot is from a flashback where a girl is telling a story on how she was abducted by a rapist. I really would appreciate any help or better see what you can do to make this scene look better! Thanks...

well, your image is almost monochromatic. so go ahead and desaturate it and the CC it till you get the color you want :)

Here's how I would tackle the CC.

I'm asuming you didn't shoot a grey card for this scene? Is that the case? If you did use the grey card to adjust the mid tones

I would use a 3 way color corection tool... comes standard on most NLE's.

Most have eye dropper tools to select spacific black/white/mid.

I would use the whites if her eye's to ballance the whites and the black of her hair to adjust the blacks and then hunt for something in the frame that's close to 18% grey (Like a grey card) that should get you in the ballpark and then just start tweeking. Good luck.

Lake Films,

Here's a quick test I did on your still. You should have better luck with the footage as I had some jpeg compression to deal with.

You could also try slapping a bit of blue on the image for kind of a "day for night" tone.

Hope that helps.

I'll give it a try...

BUT, I need to know what [idealy] you'd like out of it. What are you going for? dark, light, scary (of course), but more importantly, how long does the shot last, and what is the rest of the video going to "look" like? What surrounds this particular grab?

If there's no answer by the time I wake up tomorrow, I'll do a few experimental tests on it and post them.

It's late, I'm drunk, and I have to film the rest of the "Miss Dallas USA" contest tomorrow. Not as fun as it sounds, believe me (although, the swimsuit section of the contest was tonight)

Hey guys, thanks!

THX, how you got it to look 'correct' is a mystery to me, but I'll mess with it.

Brown, hope you enjoyed the shoot! Yes, it's at night, a normal scene that takes a huge turn for the worse, and should feel bad. It's on a street and yes a 'blue' night look is cool. It's a flashback.

I used Photoshop cs2 but right now I am playing with the image in After effects and Color Finesse and I cant's believe how easy and how much control it gives you.
