24p Advanced exports

I'm trying to export my 24p Advanced project into Encore 2.0 for DVD creation. On my Avid timeline, the advanced pulldown has made everything look great.

I export as a quicktime .mov file (makes 60i look great)
I import into Encore and I'm forced to transcode right away
When I watch my clip in Encore and on my final DVD, the flicker is back.

I've imported using NTSC and non-NTSC settings and haven't had any luck. Can someone please tell me what they are doing to minimize flicker when working with these files? I know all the shooting tips but I'm trying to get my Encore clip to look as good as my Avid timeline clip.

What settings are people using on exports out of Avid and imports into their DVD authoring programs?

I am assuming you are in a 23.976p project type. My process is to export a QuickTime reference after having rendered everything in the timeline. Set QT reference to "mastering".

The difference is that I encode in Sorenson Squeeze to MPEG2. It remains a progressive file and the MPEG2 has flags to insert 2:3 pulldown when on a NTSC monitor.

I author in Encore, but I don't encode in it so I am not familiar with its MPEG2 encoding options and settings. I will take a look and see what it can do and report back.

I am using a 23.976p project type. I also have Sorenson Squeeze 4.2. I took my Quicktime .mov file and converted it to MPEG2 and then used the MPEG2 ine Encore instead of my Quicktime. The end result was better but not perfect. I'm going to try your method MichaelP.

I'm not that familiar with Sorenson Squeeze so it's a little different for me. The program is simple enough, I just don't know my way around the compression schemes as well as I probably should.

BTW, I read it somewhere and can't remember the answer: when I am compressing something, do I want upper or lower field first?

With 24pAdvanced, do I want a progressive MPEG2 file?

Thanks for the advice. I haven't had an opportunity to try things out yet (son's b-day) but I'll certainly let you know how things turn out.

Michael, it doesn't work. My system (DV Xpress Pro HD v.5.2.1) deosn't look like the .pdf you sent me. I do the bes t I can to follow the instructions but I'm missing something along the way.

The .pdf syas to export the timeline using the "Send To" feature. Send to what? I've been trying seing to DVD which only has one option to click: Quicktime Reference.

I've tried to get rid of the interlacing but I just get error message after error message about a . Any advice
