why does the LCD screen suck so bad?

I had no idea the LCD screen on an HVX was this bad. A DVX-b BLOWS it away. It's not even close. It looks like junk in comparison. And in low light it looks a TON worse too.

It's really unbelievable. I've read the stuff on focusing and it's helpful, but I'm using the HVX right now for more run and gun stuff. I'm hoping the HVX isn't going to be only a 'set up' shot camera.

Is the auto focus on the HVX really THAT much worse than the SD DVX? I know we're dealing with more information, but i just can't believe how bad the LCD's look side by side. Makes me want to stay with the DVX (even though I need the 16:9 so I can't)

Never seen a DVX LCD, went straight from a VX-1000 with no LCD, just viewfinder, to the HVX. The viewfinder is considerably better, use that when possible (no camera had LCDs until a few years ago anyway!). You have the option to go B&W with it, which could help.

If you are shooting P2 and have time, use focus assist, your best friend. Works great even with the LCD. If you must use auto focus, keep the frame rate above 24 and it works quite well as long as there is plenty of light.

The DVX100B LCD is identical to the HVX200 LCD. Same part, same physical LCD.

Were you perhaps referencing the DVX100A? The LCD did change from the 100A to the 100B, and then the 200 kept the same LCD as the 100B.

Same lcd interesting. Many have said the dvx 100b looks better. The HVX is probably using a weak scaler which makes sense given that is has to process 4x the info. The hvx rules but the lcd IS a stinker.

i just dont like its very narrrow viewing angle. the black levels change considerably just a few degrees off. the 100a LCD wasnt like that.

i like 24p though. what frame rate would you say for low light/auto focus run-and-gun?

Use 30P. It's still progressive, looks more movielike than interlaced and is more forgiving of fast pans.

spotmen- you're right. and there are many things i love about it. it's an amazing camera.

barry- i know you are the MAN when it comes to all DVX and HVX and whatnot, but man i'm telling you.. side by side my DVX 100b and the HVX 200 are not even close. There is a clear difference that the 100b is better.

But I'm over worrying about it. Time to shoot great stuff. That's what it's all about anyway right?

Even with all this technology, it's STILL always going to be about CONTENT.

Thanks to all who responded

the LCD is the same it just that its not fit for HD

I know what you mean, you just have to trust that
the shot will look beter , because it will. Its more of a guide to what your shooting.

the view finder is better, but you might looking into a external monitor, if you don't
get use to it
