Would anyone permanently give up their sense of smell for $12 million?

I wouldn't give up my sense of smell... that would be terrible. It's such a great sense. Like when something smells better than it tastes. I normally don't eat them but... wow, I'm making no sense.

P.S. - was a thread just deleted in the Cafe or... what just happened?

Yes. I just noticed that. I put up a summertime pic of a girl drinking a beer and fishing. Sure, she looked hot but that wasnt the point of it....

go figure...

This looks like a class action lawsuit, so if there were 340 people, and the total settlement was 12 million dollars, than each person would only have gotten $35,294.12 (before legal fees, etc). That's certainly not worth it...

Thanks for pointing that out TL, I don't think many people including me would have noticed that.

Mike McNeese cracks me up.

But yeah, I'm glad most opinions on here are to opt for the quality of life vs. money. Means that the technical/film related answers to the questions I have for people on here are backed by good morals and solid reasoning.

I would not do it either. Scents bring everyone back. From the times at grandma's to the perfume of your first love. Also, I'd hate to think that I wouldn't be able to smell gas leaks, fires, or other dangerous things (mom's cooking). In all seriousness she makes a meannn chicken spaghetti.

I just found this info about Zicam when I bought the chewable tablets becasue I was sick and it didn't work. I started freaking out, but there was nothing about the chewable tablets and no loss of my olfactory sense as far as I know.

Hopefully though this will deter the readers of this post from ever buying the stuff.

First of all, I avoid taking any medication as much as possible because of stuff just like this. Nobody really knows the effects of these drugs. And I am so angry right now at the numerous chicks who forced me to take Zicam when I was sick. "Oh, it cuts your sick time in half. You have to use it."

Yeah, well you forgot to tell me that I LOSE MY SENSE OF SMELL B*TCH!

yeah tell my about it. I think it only applies to the nasal spray and nasal swab versions of it. I still will refuse to take these anymore.

I wonder... maybe its the more artistically-minded film people here saying they would NOT give up their sense of smell... and the more technically-minded people who WOULD...

just an interesting thought/question... because I know with video, one thing that most appeals about it to me is the ability to capture life/time/memory/emotion/etc. ... but I know a big draw for many people is of a more technical nature (and certainly both for many of us).... but I wonder if someone who leans more to one side or the other has any relation??

Hell no.... I love the smell of a banana split, of my wife, my kids, money, fresh cut grass, spring on a sunny 70 degree day.

Not to mention Jay, a nice candle, oranges, thick juicy steak. Plus I know I have found gas leaks, and stopped fires because of my sense of smell. Try igniting a barbeque grill after turning on the propane tank. Your sense of smell tells you whether you are about to fry the hair off your head or not.

I hear that brother!

like they say, money is the root of all evil.

one of the most misquoted phrases..... it's the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, nothin wrong with a little loot (although if you did that for the money i'd say your doing it for the love of money)

side note: my mom has no sense of smell, she's so used to it that i dont' think she can even remember when she lost it, sometime in her teens maybe. i can't imagine not being able to smell though, seems like torture, but there's alot worse senses to lose

I love fine wine too much...
I always forget how much scent has to do with taste until I get sick and stuffed up and food, wine, everything tastes differently. Wine is the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread ... it's such a sensual experience both through taste and smell that it'd be really difficult to give up the full experience for only low 8 figures.

My father hs never had a sense of smell. Here in Texas it's almost a blessing. (roadkill skunk everywhere) I asked him if he missed it once when I was a little kid. He said you don't miss what you've never had.
My list of favorite smells:
Tropical Blend tanning oil
Obsession
babies
Spices in food
My ex girlfriends hair on a warm day
Tobacco shops
Vanilla
Really good coffee
Steak
The trees outside my apartment in Salt Lake City every spring.
The inside of really old sports cars
