Can I get some critiques on a demo reel?

Before anything else, let me mention that I got the call from this guy at about 3 yesterday and wanted me to make him one clip of all my stuff to shoot off to him. I got home around 6 and put all the stuff that I had on my computer together to send it off. Everything was shot on the HVX but not all of it is HD, and some of it was already web footage at 480x270 that I re-exported because I didn't have time to grab the originals.

This is it. I just wanted to get the warning out of the way so you guys would know my time constraint. Normally people just look at the clips individually on the site, but this guy doesn't have time. Also I didn't include footage from my 2nd place festival short because he'd already watched it, but I will include it later - it's a faux-dramatic comedy, so that will add some diversity into the footage.

Thanks!

some nice footage but I wouldn't call it a demo reel.. but more of an assembly or selection of clips. Would need to have more pieces for dramatic, client bases stuff... or staged and not quite so run and gun...

Not sure I would consider pigeons in a city eating a piece of bread "wildlife"...LOL

I agree with Justyn, a reel need to communicate who you are and what you special talent is... I don't think that what you have now shows that. Also having categories on a reel is not such a great idea... The editing could be better, it's a little all over the place...

I must say that I rather liked the pigeons for a while.

Too long, at least. Everything, sorta.

If you condenced it to 40 secs, you'd have some nice stuff to show off. I'd rather have done that.

He wanted it to be a few minutes' worth of stuff which is why I put so much on there, though I feel the same - I'd prefer it not to be so long.

Then I'd say:
If you want gigs: Stay in charge.

If you have three good clips. Show them.

If you have 100, show... well... not 100 -;)

Yea but that one pidgeon was kicking that other pidgeons ass....

I would limit your reel to only your absolute best shots, and nothing else. There are a lot of shots in there that really shouldn't be there... I'd definitely shorten it up quite a bit if that's all you've really got. That being said, good luck with the gig.

BTW, Do you have stairs in your house? You can pm me the answer.
