Ran across this at B+H: Ikan V-8000HD 8" TFT LCD Monitor, 16:9, 1080i/720p

It's $750, 800x480, with component input. Apparently it runs on Sony "L" series batteries, but most of the Ikan monitors will run from a little battery box with 10 AA's (which is like $30).

I googled it, and can't find it anywhere else, not even Ikan's site. Why can't I find this anywhere? Right now it's back-ordered on B+H.

What does Barry think about this? A good monitor for the price? Surely nowhere near as good as the Marshall, but will it get the job done for focusing with a 35mm adapter?

Any thoughts?

Really interesting, thanks for sharing. Component, and it and can run on ac adapter or batteries for this this price.

Hmmm. might need to have this checked into. Why though is the component just one bnc?

Maybe it just means there's one set of component inputs.
There's no other type of component input other the three cables: YUV.
Many of Ikan's monitors have breakout cables- one cable that breaks out into multiple connections. Perhaps there is a cable connection similar to the HVX's component cable- you could consider that one cable and one connection.
And this monitor is advertised as having 1080i/720p support.
I wish we could find some pictures of the inputs for confirmation.

can... That's a sweet find there bro. Exactly in the perfect pricepoint. What's the deal with the Sony batteries though? WIsh there was an option for the panny ones. I've learned that an LCD has to be really funcional or I won't use it... So it'll mean battery power for the filed and AC in the studio....

looks promising though. Maybe there will be other competition as well

I've had a very bad experience with Ikan monitors. I've bought two of them and they both had problems out of the box. The first one would not show any video. I called Ikan and they sent me replacement overnight. The second one, you couldn't access the menu. I had no time to wait for a replacement so I purchased a Varizoom locally which has worked perfectly since.

Looks Good

Looks Good

My Panny dealer sent this to me as an alternative to the Marshall V-R70P-HDA today. It has 3 BNC Component in and outs (pass through) as well as S-video and Composite in and outs. It works as a charger for the batteries and looks very promising. After all the threads titled "which on camera monitor to use" I am very suprised there are not 50 posts on this thread. This will be at NAB this year and I'll be checking it out for sure.

So are you saying that you have this monitor or that your dealer had a demo for you, or just gave you an info pack?

Sorry, I left that open didn't I? My Dealer sent a 2007 catalog over to me that had this monitor in it and a few details/picture. He also stated that this model will be at the NAB show which will give us an opportunity to test it out.

I very recently purchased the Ikan V9200 from B&H, and I've been very pleased with it.
It only has composite inputs, but it does have horizontal and vertical flip options.
I got this Bogen shoe mount for it too.
It's been working great for what I need it for- monitoring/focusing with a 35mm adapter.

the ikan products are "made" here in houston as a side company of microsearch.

my rep there told me about a month ago about this new HD monitor that this thread mentions, and my response was more or less "i'll beleive it when i see it"

i'm going in to pick up some gear tomorrow (thursday). i'll ask them then what the story is, and see if maybe i can get a look at one...

i popped by there this afternoon and when i asked about it my sales guy kinda grinned and showed me a brochure. then he kinda quietly asked "you wanna see the prototype?" "HELL YEAH!" i said. so they brought it in and hooked it up to the canon xh a1 http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=175&modelid=14061or whatever the little canon hdv camera is and i was totally blown away! it was just ever so slightly softer than a CRT. way the hell better than most any other portable monitor ive seen! and at $795 just about worth it! the prototype had some flicker to it, but the engineer assured me that that was remedied in the production model.

he said they have 10 coming in in the next 2 weeks, most are already back ordered to various big dealers. some are going to be at NAB, but id say in about a month they will be on the streets.

displays sd and hd. has composite, component and s vid loop. does NOT have a flip feature for 35mm adapters.

i was impressed enough to go ahead and plunk down money to get one of the 1st 10 - im very excited!

more info. while i was there the regional sales rep ross grasse was there and he gave me a printout of the specs:

8" 720p and 1080i
full pass though of all inputs mentioned above
integrated L series battery plate that can charge a battery while in use connected to ac power

full kit - monitor, ac power and heavy duty shoe mount $795

thats HALF of what the comparable marshall is. NOW, its not quite as slick as the marshall. but at this price, i'll make do QUITE HAPPILLY!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks wgzn for that mini review. I'm excited to see it in action at NAB.

If it doesn't have blue gun capability its not good for much other than focus and framing... The Marshall has blue gun.
