Film Noir Style Studio Logo

This is a strange little clip I knocked together over two days. Its inspired by film noir and the title sequence of Se7en.

http://www.jdpictures.co.uk/film/quicktime/JD_Logo_Noir.mov

The original idea was to make a really cool little logo to put at the start of my films but its kind of a bit distracting - especially if the film that follows is not also noir! So I'm not really sure what to do with it!

Perhaps I will follow the idea up and use it as a full title sequence for a noir type feature thats in the works!

The gunshot makes me think western. The shots are confusing in combination. I like the end compliation as a logo.

Like the quick editing!

What sort of equipment were you using for this (ie DVX 100, A or B) and were you using any adapters? Just curious.

I've been thinking about getting a DVX 100 camera and this is the website used most for my research.

Personally, I like just the part where the light bulb "flickers" on and we see the "JD films. If I were you, I'd use only that clip for your logo, and maybe stretch it out just a bit.

Overall, like you said, it'd be a nice opening title sequence for a film.

I'll hide behind the previous user who said the shot combinations were confusing. The shot of the light bulb at the end is something that's recognizable, I would just go with that as your logo.

Maybe use the rest as a demo reel or introduction to a website?

Great looking/sounding stuff! Please post the gear you used.

umm it doesnt really make sense its all random stuff and there isnt really a logo....just the name at the end.... I dont know what the purpose of it is but i dont know what youd do with it...in end it plays out alright and looks kinda cool but enn

Thanks for the feedback. It was filmed on a stock DVX100B, no adapters. The light level was fairly low so I was able to get the iris fully open - this helped to achieve the nice depth of focus.

I agree - brevity is the soul of wit.

I would make your title stronger too. "JD Films" is the point of it so slap 'em with something a little more definite.

Now as an edit, that's fun! Great cutting, it's a neat piece that got me thinking.

I only liked the part when the light came on with JD pictures over it. The rest was more suited for a credit sequence to a movie. Too long. The gunshot didn't fit into the images.

I liked the entire piece as whole. However, the most powerfull image for me in terms of a logo would be the lightbulb with JD Films applied over it and before it reaches it's brightest illumination. I liked the use of DOF also. I look forward to seeing more.

You're headed down the right road.

I say tighten the whole thing up. Leave the thread together - chop it up even more. People will connect the dots.

If you go with just the light buld and title, then you're stuck with nothing more than an end page for broadcast. With even quicker cuts, you'll get the pieces of the puzzle and atmosphere without needing longer pauses. Try it.

Right now, it's :17. Try getting it down to :5.
