Happy DVX Grey market owner

Its true...you can get a DVX 100 B for 2800 bucks, with the 4 year Mack warrantee, and an extra battery...for 3150.00. Love it! As for HI DEF...Let def be HIGH! How much detail do you need? Can your camera see as well as you? I'm just at apoint where I just dont think DETAIL is that IMPORTANT! My DVX sees the hairs on my grlfriends lips...not flattering ..Point being.....Can wait to see whats next!!!! Plus... Just ordered the SPIDER BRACE Hope I like it!

I totally agree with you. I am a fan of a more gritty, organic look. Now, if I could afford the HVX, I could have the best of both worlds since I could always dumb down the image in post. I got my 100B, albeit not grey-market (but who cares anyway), in December and have not looked back. Very happy. The Canon HV20 just might change my mind though. I'm open to new things.....

Agree, I also went the grey market route with a Mack warranty through Global Media Pro.

Regarding HD, all my work ends up on DVD so even if I shot HD, I seriously doubt my customers would notice any difference between SD & HD on their TVs, unless they were viewing on a hi-res monitor at a distance not greater than 12 inches.

The cost of a BluRay DVD player today is around $600US, but that's a world away. I'm surprised how many of my clients with high end TVs don't know how to setup their A/V systems to correctly display 16:9 DVDs.

It's probably a different story if you're doing a film-out, but then if you can afford that then you'd probably hire a real film camera or at least an SDX.

Just out of curiousity, has anybody ever had any warranty work done under the Mack (or other similar non-Panasonic) warranty? We've found it's hard enough to find somewhere to get Panasonic warranty work done--just wondering how many hoops have to be jumped through on one of these other ones... :)

I was just about to mention that. God willing you will never have to use the warranty, but my experience with the Mack warranty made sure that I would never buy one again.
Here is the catch, it seems like such a great deal, but when I had to send my camera in for repair it took 10 weeks for them to get it back to me. 10 freeking weeks for a fire wire port replacement (AC ripped the firewire out of my camera and bent the pins) . So lets see, I'm now without a camera for 10 weeks, don't expect them to give you a loaner, don't expect to be able to talk to anyone on the phone, at least not in person, and don't expect to get any of your questions answered as to why the normal run time on a Mack warranty is 8-12 weeks. Guys make sure you have read the fine print on the warranty, in the amount of time that I didn't have my camera I ended up just buying a new one.

Ya know, after the $500 rebate from Panasonic, you could have gotten a legit AMERICAN camera with the PANASONIC warranty, AND a 4 year MACK warranty, AND an extra battery for about the same price. Maybe $50 more...

Just letting the people know...

To answer Kyles question, bought camera at "Click For Digital" Good experience, even though they are in (Oh My God!) BROOKLYN! The said they a received a shipment from a , Mr. Soprano. (Kiddin) I will admit the famous " Clunk sound" scared the S*** out of me when I took it out of the box!! Ha Ha! Thanks, Scharky for the heads up on Mack repairs, most all connectors ARE NOT covered in warranty. Guess the AC didn't know that! Why were you using a firewire on a shoot? 2 cams? Firewires are VERY fragile, so are S Video plugs.
Cheers!

I sent in my old panasonic gs150 for a firewire repair to mack and it took I think 2-3 months to get it back, with little communication or customer service. Horrible warranty.

No, I know it wouldn't be covered under warranty but if I had known that it would take them 10 weeks to fix it, I would have paid to have it fixed at a local Panasonic dealer for about $200, which would have taken 1 week. Unfortunatly 10 weeks seems to be the average time for even warranty repairs from Mack.
As for why we were using a firewire cord? DVrack my friend.

I bought my camera from a dealer on EBAY called EMPIREDIGITAL. AMAZING site. Faboulous deal, FREE OVER NIGHT SHIPPING. The dvx100b is on sell now for $2,300 and it works. That's where me and a couple of my friends bought our camera's from. XL2's, DVX's and HVX's. Not a single one of us has had a problem. Yeah, no rebate, but what beats a $3,878 HVX? Nothing. Yeah their tripods suck but at least their cameras are legit. Me and my friends have had a good experience with them and I refer everyone I can to buy from EmpireDigital.

Scharky, I'm currently checking out the free trial DV Rack and although it's cute and pretty... It seemed a bit awkward. Maybe it was because it was on a computer! I'm going to stick with a good field monitor. How do you like it? By the way I've enjoyed all your posts and comments. Haleyvision.com

Yikes!!! I hope I never have to make a claim with them.

Did you you buy any accessories, or did you give them a flat $2300 and get the camera?

Buying an HVX for $5199 and getting a free $1400 8gig card (as well as Barry Green's HVX Handbook, a Panasonic USA warranty, and the knowledge that if something does break, it won't take 10 weeks to get repaired).

Other than that, yeah, great deal.

Hey Tommy, do you think the DVX will maintain its pricing before March ends? Does it seem like anything will happen after the rebate ends? Thanks for your input!
