When I first bought the dvx100, he gave me the Panasonic MQ tape (white one)....so i'm guessing he only used the MQ tapes on the dvx100.

I decided to use the Panasonic Tape you find at walmart, i put it in and shot footage for a minute or two. I tried to rewind but sometimes it would get stuck! When I did play it, i would see horrible lines, jagged edges....just messed up footage.

Well, the timecode was way off...timecode was going crazy....i had no clue what to do.

I put the panasonic headcleaning tape in, tried playing but the timecode wasn't running. I pressed play anyways, and waited 10 seconds.

When i put the tape i shot footages with back in, it would rewind well but the footage still looked like crap with lines and square boxes at random places.

Man, tapes from walmart really messed up my panasonic head...

what do i do?!

*update*

I put back the WHITE Panasonic MQ tape, rewinded that and played and i saw no lines or mess ups! So, does this mean throw away the walmart panasonic tapes and never use them again?

But, I thought using any panasonic tapes were alright...since both use the same chemica? I'm confused =/

Hmmm, maybe it's just the Walmart tape. Maybe buy it somewhere else, online, Best Buy, Circuit City, Electronics store near you. you'll be getting the same tapes so i don't know how buying them in a different place helps.

i thought using panasonic tapes was okay, but unfortunately the walmart panasonic kind is not lol.

Hmm.

Any type of Panasonic tape should be fine in your camera. If the tapes were sealed, there should be no difference whether you bought them at Wal-Mart, CC, BB, or B&H...

well, i think the previous owner used MQ tapes only for 228 hours. I think the panasonic DVM60 was the first time to be used in that dvx100. When I put the tape in, it said "FORMAT ERROR!" lol...and went crazy..the timeline was crazy and couldn't rewind ...bunch of jagged edges, dropped frames etc. Maybe, i should of cleaned the head before putting the DVM60...but now, i'm too afriad to put those walmart tapes again.

Grrr, I am so tired of tapes myself! I need a firestore. I think cameras are a bit like cars. You put unleaded in them when they are new, they still zip around without trouble. Then to keep the knocks and pings down that start to show up after some mileage, you put in super. However if you use super, keep it well oiled (cleanings) from the get go. You keep you're gray hairs down to a minimum.
