i cant wait to get home and try this out, if i can make a replicable HD-DVD at my house now , even if its not all fancy pants itll be a nice addition that was unexpected

WOW, im trying to download it now on my iMac after already installing on my Macbook Pro and its going at like 4k per second tops, then stalls out at like 200k downloaded. wtf

i have been dying for better HD DVD support since I own a toshiba HD-A2...does this mean the h.264 stuff will work?>

I just burnt an MPEG 2 1920 x 1080 30 second test track...

....

And it booted up menu perfectly, menus work as well! Pretty nice, i am very very happy. Sonic Scenarist may still have the upper hand as far as features, but no longer need it for myself to author. great news.

OH btw, it played in the crummy no support Xbox 360 HD DVD player.

Everyone rejoice

I'm testing too - it APPEARS that H.264 is working for the first time correctly as well on my Toshiba HD-A2 player, I need to make a new disc and overtly verify that. Menu is kinda working, there are some oddnesses and I need to verify the menus work correctly on the Mac before saying there's something goofy with'em on the Toshiba.

Thanks mike, i just did a quick single pass H264 720p test, burning now, but i dont like the quality on the keyframing, guess i need to get a little better with the export on that. But i dont think ill be doing h.264 for too many newer projects until it supports 1080 resolutions.

unless it does from a quicktime export instead of compressor , man, alot of testing to do LOL.

THis is fun!

With this release, can we assume full HD DVD support (blu lazer) with the next FCP! I hope so...

MPEG-2 just worked in my XBOX HD Player, and I will try it out on the HD-A2 later (with Dolby Audio). Burning the .H264 now.

3:41am kingsreign, you are probably still asleep, but post your results please :)

Ya, i think its a safe bet for full Blue LaSer in next studio update.

:) :) :)

Yes, both the MPEG-2 and .H264 files played in both the XBOX and HD-A2 players with Dolby Audio. No Problems at all. I have not used Menu's and things yet, but others have and they work. I will try that myself later.

As far as I know, there are none available for Mac. What I am hoping for is a similar drive to the LG Blue Lazer Player. It would be a great announcement from Apple at NAB if they have this worked out. If not, it would be nice to be able to buy a new Mac Pro with one drive Blu-Ray, and the other one HD DVD.

THat would be nice.

I dont think there are HD DVD burners for macs either, but Intel macs run Windows too, and ive got 2 core 2 duos already loaded with XP. :)

I don't think HD DVD burners are on the market yet. Toshiba has displayed them at shows, but I don't think they're commercially available.

I would be happy to be wrong though.

Ya, id be happy to be right. :) I actually cant seem to find one for sale though, so i guess im wrong or just dont know. Id just like to be able to test on my own on different players before sending an image out to a repliactor on a HDD, not knowing whether it was made correctly or not. :/

There are one or two on the market. I'm not touching them until the whole format stabilizes, though, so I don't know specifics.

cam you point me in any direction? i might just start a new thread looking for someone local though. Im looking to expand immediatly here

I don't know exactly, I remember reading something about one or two units in MacWorld or some magazine recently.
