Shotgun Mic for DVX100B ,MKE300

I was looking into the Sennheiser MKE300 shotgun for about $150.00, But now I am hearing that this mic is all plastic and breaks all the time. And I think this mic CANNNOT phantom powered.

Can anyone recommend a good shotgun that is short and phantom for the dvx100B camera?

Thanks

I just bought the Rode NTG-1. It is fairly short as shotguns go and runs on phantom power. Used it with my DVX100B indoors and out and got good results. The other mic recommended in this price range is the Octava, which has excellent sound indoors, but is more sensitive to handling and movement noises (so needs high-quality schock mount and windscreens).

I also jhave the NTG-1 its a great mic.

I use Sennheiser ME66 via the K6 module - this is a slightly different approach to mike set up as you can buy a few different mikes as additions to the k6 module ( the mike base).

So it is kind of expensive to start with but benefits are there later on as you can buy a cardoid for interviewing and use same base to make a neat quality mike.

I am biased but I think the sennheiser is a better quality shotgun mike than the Rode - but equally that is reflected in the slightly higher cost - I guess it depends how much sound matters to your video :-)

I have this mike for my consumer grade camera. Very good for a consumer grade mini-DV with a 1/8 inch plug.

But DON'T even think of it for a DVX. Bad move. For a few dollars more and you want a shotgun get the Rode NTG-1 (which I have) or the NTG-2. Same mike except one has battery power (NTG-2).

With a DVX you don't need the battery power since the camera can power it. The NTG-1 is shorter and lighter than the NTG-2 but they sound the same.

If you want the least expsensive shotgun that has a good rep, the Rode is the way to go.

The Oktava is not a shotgun, and I have one of those for indoors.
