My HVX202 Demo Reel. 90% is with the M2 & Nikon's. Most of it is offline material and also without CC. I will have a site to host my stuff soon (I hope). In the meantime its YouTube! Sucks!

Also like to say thanks to Barry Green for his excellent Demo & introduction to the HVX in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last October. Business really picked up for my HVX after his trip here.

Cheers & thanks Barry:beer:

This is excellent work. You obviously do a lot of commercial work, and have done for some time, based on the quality of this footage.

The M2 makes this footage look very filmic.

Good stuff.

That was fantastic. I mean really wonderful work all around. I enjoyed the entire thing. Was their music to accompany it? My sound was on, but nothing came through my speakers. Regardless, it still kept me watching till the end. Kudos. Severe Kudos. Painfully sever kudos of the brain.

Congrats.

I'm not getting sound in it for some reason...bizarre.

But the video is outstanding. Great work. You must have a great jib.

WOW. I'm gonna have to watch that again. Looks really nice. But I agree... why don't you have any sound on this.. or atleast a music track. Really hard to watch something silent. I'd say to throw in some sound design.. and you'd have a real winner of a demo

Thanks for the all the compliments:beer: Most of the stuff was shot by me except for the Panasonic Commercial & slow mo bicycle shots.

There is no sound for my demo! I'll post a new one soon with audio and more footage.

The Jib arm I use is an old Miller Jib. Nothing special.

I have been shooting commercials for almost 13 years now. Until this camera came along I was mostly only shooting on 35mm Film (Except recently really low budget stuff being shot on DVX). I have used the F900 with Digi Primes. Lenses are geat but Sony gamma still looks to videoish and latitude sucks outdoors. Varicam stuff has been good with Angenuiex 35mm adapter but only shoots 720p.

2/3" CCD HD equipment rental costs, tape costs and Digibeta down conversion costs are almost the same as shooting on 16mm, so HD hasn't been very popular in the commercial market here.

With the M2 and proper camera settings I reckon the HVX gives me sweeter looking stuff than 16mm and at 1080p with the M2 my outdoor footage I swear looks almost like 35mm film. I recently downconverted footage from a job to Digibeta for a post house working in SD and the editor thought it was Film footage :). All at a fraction of the cost!

The M2 is great but has taken me almost 4 months to get it right. A lot of problems with edge softness I think is mostly due to bad lenses and not the adapter (with Nikons).

HVX noise issues have also gone away with the right camera settings.

The HVX is a powerfull tool when put in the right hands. Production setup and workflow should be treated the same as when shooting on film & you will see great results.

The HVX has already converted a few Film directors here, who awhile ago said to me that they only shoot on film and will never touch video! Now they're shooting on my HVX ...

such a nice demo indeed. The M2 does definitely set off the HVX footage a lot more. Can you descibe your set-up? Do you use a monitor, have an AC, etc? I think this is the best M2 footage I've seen. Looks so pro.. bro.

Any info might help me to consider buying an M2... and what Nikons do I need to get. I'm a canon guy.. but will get the nikons for the HVX purposes. I'd like to try the Zeiss new lenses that came out.. but so darn pricey

Hey Adam! Glad to see you posting, your reel looks great. Wish we could see it in its high-def glory, but you've definitely got skills. Very cool to meet a DVXUser from literally the opposite side of the globe, and I'm glad to hear you're having such success. Keep it up, and keep sharing your stuff!

Adam,

This is definitely some inspiring piece of work. Some of your compositions are amazing looking. I too have the hvx with the m2 and what I do notice is that the hvx 202 somewhat looks better than the hvx200. I shot both PAL and NTSC hvx's and I notice colors are slightly better on the 202 models. I'm not sure why that is. Anyway, do tell if you don't mind me asking what was your setup like, etc. I'm trying to get rid of the awful noise from my setup. How did you get rid of yours? Also what lens did you use primarily? I have the Nikkor 85mmf/1.4 d/f lens. I originally had an 85 but this one is way better plus it cost me about $1100 bucks so I have no excuse as far as quality. The only problem with my setup at the moment is noise. Even with lights I'm still getting some noise. Are you shooting on p2 or another alternative like the firestore? I shoot everything on 1080 since the firestore has 100 gigs of space. I still can't figure to do slowmo on 1080, how are you pulling yours off?

Sorry, I actually never ask so many questions till now and I've been an active member since 2004. Thanks bro

what setting have you used on the sunny shots and at that "office shot".. i just got an hvx and trying to learn how to use it, but i must say i dont get anywhere close to the pictures you are getting....

Justyn - Thanks.
1. Yes I run 2 monitors both the 17" & 8.4" Panasonic HD monitors (Rental).
2. I have a Focus Puller/1st A/C & a P2 Loader.
3. Nikons are good enough. You will need a basic set of matched prime Nikon lenses-
24mmf2, 35mmf2, 50mmf2 & 85mmf2 .
I have all these lenses plus - 20mm f2.8 wide lens and some longer lenses -
105mm f2.5 & 180mm f2.8.

BLUESPYDER-
1. I shoot in Cine D mode, Master pedestal at least -8, Detail Coring +6, Detail +2.
2. I use all the lenses mentioned above.
3. I shoot on P2 cards. My assistant offloads to laptop & 2 x 300gig external drives
4. You cannot shoot slowmo in 1080 mode! Only in 720pn mode.

Experience & lots of tests:kali:

Adam, stunning footage. A few HD movie snippets and/or frames grabs posted would be a treat for us all, although that is one of the better youtube encodes I have observed.

1080 recording is the way to go for that little bit more. The 25p HVX202 has one advantage over the 24p HVX200 in 1080 mode. To my knowledge, the 25p model has an underlying 1440 horizontal resolution upon DVCProHD encode, whereas the 24p has 1280. This may make little perceivable difference, as the human eye is more sensitive to vertical resolution?

I initially thought Cine-D was the way to shoot, then realised with my lack of broadcast monitoring and experience, often blow out highlights with the lack of knee control. I still have not figured out how to comfortably control the noise with Cine-D, and will try your settings soon. B.Press maybe the alternative setting to work from, more tests in due course. Nice to have those two broadcast monitors you rent, and your experience is clear from your amazing reel. Thanks for letting us have a look.
