Andromeda w/SGPRO footage shortly

Ok have managed to minimize the grain somewhat, have even posted some footage using the noise reduction demo plugin for fcp, didnt color correct much other than turn down the blacks and up the saturation a little..
Am not quite happy with the results but its getting there..
As for the footage, made them nice and big, however might want to shrink it to half. The lens used was a nikon 50mm f1.4, will post more footage using a 28 and an 85mm as i take it to the streets as the andro is going mobile shortly.. oh and apologies in advance for not using a tripod.. :>

**Special thanks to Advantech for offering to host the files!!**

Enjoy..

If your adapter and your camera are mounted on rod support, you should be fine.
I always leave my camera mounted to the adapter with a 50mm lens atached to it since I don't want to dial in the adjustments with zoom and focus on the dvx everytime a wanna shoot something. But if that's wrong then somebody please correct me! :)

where abouts in Aus are you?
did you have to pay any import duty for any of the stuff you've bought from the US?

Ok, just got up, its 4.25am here :S, run some quick tests after work and post them

Jenningsp - Anything over $1000 AU, you have to pay GST on, you could get the seller to state a price under this when shipping although this will not insure you for the goods, a price i was not willing to pay with the Andromeda :S

Smettli - I hope that your right, am aware you received your SG recently too, great looking footage, and nice pig

Anyways am off to run some tests, will post findings in a few hrs..

Cheers

Can't wait to see work from a fellow andromeda user. Don't give us no 'raw' looks though, at least put a nice RBG curve on it.

Hmms.. in normal daylight it looks great, although have noticed at times when viewing the SD footage from the tape it looks fine although after cc the Andromeda footage it tends to develope alot of noise which could possibly be the settings used to record/render the footage with sculptor HD, as well as the in-camera settings.. In low light situations for which the andro is known for the SGPRO almost makes it like SD footage w/noise :S. Have tried to seek out advice for both the Andro and SGPRO these last few days although im assuming theyve got alot on theyre plate at the moment.
I have a couple of clips, one of which is spot on and the other which is noisey..
My first time posting footage, need some advice on how you guys zap files to make them small and good enough quality for the net, and some good file hosts

Cheers

I like 640x360 h.264 QT files... Quality between 50% and 75%, keyframe every 5 frames (for PAL...), but I´m really no expert on this, so maybe someone else can offer sth better...
For Upload: check your MemberUploadCenter here on DVXUSER or go to stickypod.com they used to offer webspace for us too...
hope this helps...

Use h.264 for the compression and host the files for free at stickypod.com in their free video gallery.

Yes, one of the birthing pains of using Andromeda is that you have to do a series of tests to find the optimum settings for every type of shooting sitaution. Once you go through this hard work, you are invincible, so it is definitely worth it.
This can include:
1. the capture process, light conditions
2. Rendering it out, which LUT, which detail type, which version of sculptor
3. How to view the rendered footage, which NLE or Coloring program used, the whole coloring process (which is a joy unto itself)

There are a lot of variables. Many many more than just shooting to tape and coloring with the camera. You have to realize you have a HUGE variety of options with this process. Structure your brain accordingly.

Once you start seeing different results all the way down the chain of events it will give you ideas of how to shoot and plan things better in the first place. Just work with the system and play scientist for a bit. Take the time and learn how everything works.

If you DON'T bother to do this, well, you are going to have noisy, bad, milky footage. Believe me when I tell it is possible to have noiseless, crystal clear , well-graded and beautifully painted images in ANY lighting or color condition. DOn't give up.

Ok, have gotten to the bottom of the graininess thanks to Juan, it appears due to the compression of SD footage the 35mm adapter footage appears quite smooth, however due to the high rez and wide dynamic range of the andromeda, it picks up on the imperfections in the ground glass, which produces the grain, which some people may actually like. When compressing the footage, with the right codec it can remove alot of the grain while maintaining reasonable quality ie. color information, dynamic range.. which is what the andro is all/mainly about, and there is a remove grain plugin which you can purchase for around $100 for FCP which.. well removes the grain without blurring the image like most other methods, which may come in handy. Would be very interested to see how well the g35 works with the andro.. and am looking forward to finding out if there is another way around the grain issue..
I've enclosed a file with some un' cc footate, just adjusted the brightness and contrast.. should have crushed the blacks a lil more i know.. was going to post a full screen version although was taking too long :S

First Test -

Oh and Matthew Bennette, would love to know what your workflow is like as you have been an andro user for much longer than me.. would love some example workflows that outline which lut's and codecs you use in different lighting conidtions, and shows just how you manage to smooth out the image so much
Would be much appreciated..
Oh and how curious are you to find out what these new changes are to SculptorHD and how they ll benefit us dvx andro users and this new camera which theyre supporting

Cheers
