Critique my Reel - Thank you

Hey just saw the re-edited reel and I think it flows a lot better. It seems more natural.

Great job. I would like to see more of these films, do you have a place I can download or buy them from?

Some of these films are films I directed:

Man-Hole IV is part of m comedy series and can be found here:

IV, the one timur shot, actually stands alone if you want to just skip to that.

Bloody Mary is a film Timur and I did for HorrorFest here, and you can get to it right on the home page of my site:

And KATRINA can be gotten to through my sig. you can even download the 720p version right from my sig.

The first film on the reel is Jack's and can be see at: www.frenchquarterfeatures.com

Well I didn't have the benefit of seeing the original cut on this so I don't have any frame of reference which, I think, is probably a good thing.

Timur, I have to be really honest here and tell you that, for me, the whole thing is off as far as pacing goes. It feels to me like you are stretching a limited number of films over a long period of time. For me, that's a red flag because it looks like you have shot about three films in your life. Whether or not you have is irrelevant, you don't want to give that impression to a potential client.

I think maybe the music is the wrong choice because there is nothing about it that makes me feel like the imagery is grounded by it. It may also be limiting a more creative edit. I agree with others that this could be cut down to a killer 1-minute reel. Make your audience hunger for more. As it is, my mouse-clicking finger wants to fast forward through a lot of it.

On an encouraging note, some of your shots look really good and evoke an instant mood and emotion.

The whole thing also looks a little too soft like your shots are all out of focus. I'm sure this is the compression you used but I'm wondering how you were not able to get a better compression given the size of the file.

So there it is, another disjecta party pooper review. :lipsrseal

Sorry about that.

Thats cool Steven, i m having an editor frined of mine do it. Keep me away from NLE's.

Stunning, professional work.

Some of it was too out of focus for my liking - but I'm just old.

And am I the only one around here that finds the current obsession with violence psycho and blood a crashing bore?

I don't mean that as a reflection of the technical and creative aspect your work - that's outstanding.

Im curious what you guys mean "out of focus"??? liek as inthe shot was not focused properly? or the compression is softening the video too much? I assure you its all in proper focus.

I'll speak for myself...I think it's a compression issue. Compression tends to soften the image and breaks it up a little. In some of your shots this gives the impression that they are not in focus because any sharpness from the original is obliterated by the strong compression.

i knwo the shot youre talking about. its MH:IV. I only had the WMV version form the web. i had an AVI file but it was the old one without CC or letterboxbars.
