Getting a Greenish look, and possible some other tints.

Hello,
I just go tmy DVX and I was wondering what I can do If i want to get a greenish grimy look to my footage. I am supposed to shoot a hardcore video and the guys said they want that look to some of their footage. I figure i need to do somthing through the white balance, cause i know that normal wal-mart lights are 4400 kelvin degrees or somthing like that and should give off a green tint on film, i just wanted to know if this is possible to do on the dvx before post. Thank you everyone.

Also, are there any other ways to achieve some diferant colors through messing with the white balance? Thanks!

You can get Warm Cards, so perhaps go the opposite way by getting say a piece of 1/4 strength magenta gel, placed on some white paper, then WB.

Not sure about DVX, HVX has a Flo scene setting and one of the individual menu setting moves colour towards green or magenta, change back towards the green extreme.

Lastly, push it in post. Use a 3-way CC, perhaps moving the mids mostly towards green on the colour dial. Maybe a few more buttons to press, you get the picture.

dude, just white balance against anything you can find.....I once white balanced against a bright orange peli case and the colours went mental.

also play with the scene settings....there really arent any rules dude, just fiddle with the camera until you get something you like the look of.

I have MB and know that it has several looks like the one you want. The movie "Man On Fire" had that type of look. Yeah, if you dont have MB, then as others suggested, try CC. Good luck.

You can use the Chroma Phase control on the DVX to push the image toward green a little. Combine that with tricking the white balance as others have said and you should have quite a bit of control over the look.

You can do two really effective things. If you are shooting under flourcent lights you can achieve a natural greenish tint which graduates with the light intensity, thus its not a normal image made green. As I see it there is no real reason to mess with Chromo phase in camera, this moves the colour spectrum between green and its opposite magenta; something you can easily do in post.

I would rather white balance the camera without the flourcent light on, leave them off otherwise the camera will try auto correct the green tint, which is not what you want. You might find the image is too green, in this case play a little with the chromo phase in your scene files as this will help you push skin tones back to a more acceptable level.

If you really need more green rather by some +Green gels, in camera tinting is not the most effective tool - its a shorthand and not very realsitic, besides you can tweak with considerable more control on Final Cut or Adobe Premiere - shoot clean grade later.

hey reilwezie. magic bullet is the way to go. Try to find the lastes version of it. If its downloading of buying. It is really an awesome tool. best bet is to shoot clean as possible. Then do everything in post. CC can help to if you want to darken or make the colors more vibrant. Heres a little test i did once. I shot with dvx100a, just using practical light. Then in post i added the filters and CC.

is that sort of the looking you want??

Hey Deckard, watched your little clip on you tube, looked pretty cool. What filters did u use, and what did you tweak with colour correction?

i used a filter from magic bullet editors program. Tweaked around the brightness levels. Also added a few more diffusion filters for the glowing effect.
