looks great Craig, I do my fair share of hanging out of a chopper. Is there a good smoother like shakes for After Effects..do ya know? I'll post some of my chopper stuff here tomorrow.

Hi there,

What a nice location! Shots look very cool. please post the "unsmoothed" versions so we can see the difference, it will be interesting.

Did you pay for the chopper, or were you paid for the shoot?

Thanks,
Derrick

That is impressive- nice camera work, and that is a strong selling point for shake!!! Makes me consider putting down the $500 for it.

On a more technical note- how was the camera mounted / how did you film? Did you just open up the door and film out the side? Was the camera mounted on a tripod or did you use any sort of stabiling device while inside the helicopter?

The helicopter pilot took the door of the machine prior to our flight. I was harnessed in with the normal seat-shoulder belts as well as a waist harness. I ended up cradeling the camera in my left hand and adjusted the zoom/focus with my right hand. I used the FS-100 for the helicopter shoot as well. i kept it in the inside pocket of my winter jacket (because is was very cold). Hope that helps.

Wow- I'm even more impressed knowing that it was "handheld" great job - even the unsmoothed shot looks good considering that is was in your hands. (No where near as good as the smoothed shot of course. :) )

For those interested, the P2 Store did not work well in the cold tempuraters... and neither did the FS-100. I had to place the P2 Store on the engine of a snowmobile to warm it up to operational temps. Below is a picture. When I used the FS-100, I had to store it inside my jacket to keep it warm enough.

I forget its always winter somewhere in the world. If only we got 20m of snow here every year. Interesting that the P2 store and FS wouldn't play ball. What temp was it out of interest?

Can't afford wes cam? Thats what the smoothcam node is for. Be warned though, it can produce messed up, warped and distorted results just as easy as wes cam smooth results. Couldn't see any distortion in your clips, though they are a bit small to tell. Did you have to tweak the smoothcam node much?

Where can I get the shake program from

Where can I get the shake program from

Where can I get this program shake never hared of it before.

I am filming a skiing video in 2 weeks time in Andorra. Will be doing some helicopter shots.

I was think of using the fig rig. Filmed last year in Andorra out of a helicopter in 720p with a JVC HD100 hand held did not get good results at all.

Will shoot 1880i this time.

Its Apple software, until 6-7 months ago worth $3000 dollars or so, priced just dropped.
The best compositing software around i reckon...
