Oktava not turning on

You are talking to about preamp damage as i dont see how exactly you damage the mic shorting the wires ?
patch bays - dont remeber if iever disconnect mic levels there :-)

by the way - this topic is n-1 lesson to these who think one mic is enouth and 1 cable is what you need , even it might be other problem

Oleg is right, you probably won't damage a mic by plugging/unplugging. It is just good practice to learn some basics (so you won't blow out a ribbon or your boom ops ears). Just kind of a standard practice. since there are people who will scream at you for dong it and it is just as easy not to.

I'm still waiting on a follow up to my "headphone volume is down" guess. C'mon... don't be ashamed to have had a D'oh! moment.

if he heard the internal s - so we cana eliminate it
by the way in the b- you dont need go to vcr mode

Blah! I was writing too quickly. Allow me to ammend -

"Be careful with your phantom power. Never connect or disconnect a mic while phantom power is on. You can damage your audio equipment (or someone's ears)."

The point remains the same - it's a bad idea to make connections while phantom power is on.

We still haven't gotten clarification on the gain dials... as there is some small response from the mic (when he's blowing on it) that means there is some signal flow, at a low level. Bluewave - please confirm your gain settings!

Hey guys,
Some good news...as it turns out the cable I was using was busted! To be honest it was the least likely outcome in my opinion since I bought it yesterday and it was the first time I had used it!

Anyway, went to guitar center, got a new one (upgraded actually to nicer cables...thought id treat myself since I was relieved at not having to get my camera fixed/buy a new oktava) and now it works!

Sounds great too...thanks again for all the help guys!
